Brad Arnold, the lead singer of Three Doors Down, has sadly passed away at the age of 47 after battling stage-four kidney cancer. He is survived by his wife, Jennifer Sanderford, whom he married in 2009. He passed away today, on February 7, 2026. He had revealed his diagnosis in May 2025 and remained courageous throughout.
Arnold co-founded the band in 1996 in Escatawpa, Mississippi. The post-grunge band was mostly known for the hits “Kryptonite” and “Here Without You”. Arnold, who was the lead singer and primary songwriter, originally started the band with his high school friends, including guitarist Matt Roberts and bassist Todd Harrell. The band really started gaining traction when they released “Kryptonite,” in 2000, which was actually their debut single. That song went on to become a massive hit and helped them build a strong fan base.

And as they continued to grow, 3DD released several successful albums and toured extensively, solidifying their place in the rock scene. Brad’s songwriting and distinctive voice were definitely central to their identity, and their music resonated with fans for decades.
Brad Arnold was diagnosed with his terminal stage-four kidney cancer in early 2025. He initially noticed some symptoms like fatigue and back pain, and after a series of tests, he learned it had progressed to an advanced stage. Despite undergoing various treatments, including chemotherapy and immunotherapy, he remained open about his journey and kept in touch with fans. This passing is a significant loss for the band and the music community.
After Brad Arnold’s passing, many musicians shared heartfelt tributes. Scott Stevens from The Exies recalled fond memories and thanked Brad for their time together. Scott Stapp from Creed also expressed support when Brad announced his cancer diagnosis. Three Doors Down themselves also honored Brad, highlighting his talent, warmth, and dedication to his family and friends.
Aside from “Kryptonite,” and “Here Without You”, Three Doors Down was also well-known for hits like “When I’m Gone,” “Away from the Sun,” and “Let Me Go.” Each of those tracks contributed to their reputation as one of the prominent post-grunge bands of the early 2000s.
