Rockies Snap Historic Skid with 3–2 Win Over Marlins, Hunter Goodman Homers Again

The Colorado Rockies, owners of the worst record in Major League Baseball, made a bit of history Tuesday night — in a good way. Hunter Goodman’s eighth-inning solo homer lifted the Rockies to a 3–2 victory over the Miami Marlins at loanDepot Park, snapping a streak of 22 consecutive series losses dating back to 2024. It marked Colorado’s first series win in over seven weeks and just their second set of back-to-back victories all season.

The 24-year-old Goodman, who homered twice in Monday’s series opener, went 2 for 4 with his 10th home run and 12th double of the season. His go-ahead blast off Miami reliever Anthony Bender (1–4) was the difference on a night when the Rockies’ bullpen shut the door late.

Eight of Goodman’s 10 homers have come on the road, a telling stat for a club that entered the game with a league-worst 11–50 record.

Tyler Freeman recorded three hits, while rookie outfielder Jordan Beck chipped in two, including an RBI single in the fifth that tied the game 2–2. Thairo Estrada followed with a sacrifice fly to even the score after the Rockies fell behind early.

Colorado starter Chase Dollander, recently activated from the injured list, pitched three innings and tossed 59 pitches, allowing RBI singles to Jesús Sánchez and Kyle Stowers. It was a brief but encouraging return for the 23-year-old.

Victor Vodnik (1–1) earned the win with 1 1/3 innings of scoreless relief, escaping a jam in the seventh after inheriting two runners with two outs. He induced a soft groundout from Agustín Ramírez to end the threat.

Seth Halvorsen notched his third save by retiring three pinch hitters in the ninth. The game ended on a highlight-reel running catch by center fielder Brenton Doyle, who snagged Heriberto Hernández’s deep drive near the wall.

The Marlins, meanwhile, have dropped three straight and seven of their last eight. Jesús Sánchez had two hits and an RBI for Miami, while ace Sandy Alcantara delivered one of his best outings of the season. The former Cy Young winner worked six strong innings, allowing two runs and striking out five, but again didn’t factor into the decision — the second straight no-decision following a string of seven consecutive losses.

Bender’s homer allowed to Goodman was his first since August 10, 2024. Colorado will go for a rare series sweep Wednesday afternoon. Left-hander Kyle Freeland (0–8, 5.72 ERA) is set to take the mound for the Rockies against Miami lefty Cal Quantrill (3–5, 5.84 ERA). After 19 straight series losses to start the 2025 campaign, the Rockies are suddenly one win away from a sweep.
