Rookie Agustín Ramírez’s Two Homers Lift Marlins Over Yankees 2-0

Rookie catcher Agustín Ramírez provided all the offense the Miami Marlins needed on Saturday night, belting two solo home runs to lead the Marlins to a 2-0 win over the New York Yankees at loanDepot park. With the victory, Miami clinched the weekend series and extended its winning streak to four games.

Ramírez wasted no time making an impact, crushing a 421-foot solo homer to left-center off Yankees starter Cam Schlittler in the first inning—his 16th home run of the season. The rookie added a nearly identical solo shot in the fourth, accounting for both of the game’s runs.

Behind Ramírez’s power surge, 21-year-old right-hander Eury Pérez delivered a dominant performance despite some early adversity. Pérez (4-3) experienced pitchcom issues in the first inning that caused three brief delays but quickly settled down. Over six innings, he held the Yankees to just two hits, striking out six and walking three across 88 pitches.

The Marlins bullpen took it from there. Ronny Henriquez and Tyler Phillips each tossed a perfect inning, and Calvin Faucher closed the door in the ninth for his 11th save of the season.

Schlittler (1-2), making his fourth major league start since being called up from Triple-A on July 9, pitched well despite taking the loss. He struck out six over five innings, allowing just four hits and the two Ramírez homers.

The Yankees’ best chance came in the fifth when Ben Rice doubled and Paul Goldschmidt drew a walk, but Pérez worked out of trouble by striking out Ryan McMahon and retiring Anthony Volpe on a groundout.

The Marlins also flashed strong defense. In the first inning, left fielder Kyle Stowers recorded his sixth assist of the season by throwing out Trent Grisham at the plate as Grisham tried to score from second on Giancarlo Stanton’s single.

The announced attendance of 34,645 marked the Marlins’ largest home crowd of the season, surpassing Friday’s series opener against New York that drew 32,299 fans.

With Saturday’s win, Miami improved to 29-14 since June 13 and has now captured six consecutive series. The Marlins look to complete the sweep in Sunday’s finale as they continue their surge into the playoff race.
