Jakob Marsee gave the Miami Marlins exactly what they needed to end their skid. The rookie center fielder erupted for a career night with two home runs, a double, and seven RBIs, leading the Marlins to a 13-4 victory over the Cleveland Guardians on Wednesday night at Progressive Field. The win snapped Miami’s four-game losing streak.
Marsee, who entered the game with just one homer and six RBIs in his first 12 major league appearances, went 4-for-5 and drove in every one of his runs with two outs. He opened the scoring with a three-run blast in the first inning and later broke a tie in the fifth with a two-run shot off reliever Kolby Allard (2-2) to put Miami ahead for good at 6-4.
“He was locked in from the first pitch,” Marlins manager Skip Schumaker said. “For a young guy to deliver like that in big moments says a lot.”
Xavier Edwards set the tone early with a leadoff homer—extending his hitting streak to eight games while raising his average to .447 in that span—while Graham Pauley and Edwards also went deep as part of Miami’s 15-hit outburst. Agustín Ramírez capped the scoring with a two-run single in the seventh.
Eury Pérez (5-3) earned the win, striking out eight in five innings despite giving up four runs on three hits. Cleveland tied the game 4-4 in the fourth when Gabriel Arias drilled a three-run homer after Kyle Manzardo was hit by a pitch and C.J. Kayfus singled and stole second.
But Miami’s offense roared back. Pauley broke the tie with a solo shot in the fifth, and the Marlins piled on from there. Kyle Stowers added an RBI single, Liam Hicks doubled in another run, and Marsee delivered a two-run double in the sixth to stretch the lead to 11-4.
Steven Kwan homered for Cleveland in the first, but the Guardians’ bats never recovered after Miami’s middle-inning surge.
Marsee had seven RBIs Wednesday night—he had just six total in his career entering the game.
Miami will send Edward Cabrera (6-5, 3.08 ERA) to the mound Thursday against Cleveland’s Tanner Bibee (8-9, 4.60 ERA) in the finale of the three-game series.
