Sam’s Club Recalls Freeze-Dried Fruit Over Possible Listeria Risk

Sam’s Club Recall Freeze-Dried Fruit

Sam’s Club has issued a voluntary recall of its Member’s Mark freeze-dried fruit variety packs due to a potential contamination with Listeria monocytogenes, a dangerous foodborne bacterium that can cause severe illness — especially in young children, the elderly, pregnant individuals, and those with weakened immune systems. The affected product is the Member’s Mark Freeze-Dried Fruit Variety Pack, which includes individual pouches of freeze-dried sliced apples, strawberries, and mixed fruit. According to Sam’s Club and the manufacturer, BrandStorm Inc., the recalled items were sold exclusively at Sam’s Club locations nationwide between July 1 and July 25, 2025.

What Consumers Need to Know

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) announced the recall on August 2, citing the potential presence of Listeria monocytogenes discovered during routine testing. Although no illnesses have been reported to date, the company said the move was made “out of an abundance of caution.” “While we have not received any consumer complaints or confirmed cases of illness, we take food safety seriously and are conducting this recall to protect our customers,” BrandStorm said in a public statement. Consumers who purchased the product during the affected time frame are urged not to consume the fruit. The FDA advises that the recalled product should be discarded immediately or returned to any Sam’s Club store for a full refund — no receipt required.

The recalled item includes the following UPC codes:

  • Member’s Mark Freeze-Dried Fruit Variety Pack (18 ct)
    UPC: 078742458629
    Best By Dates: March 11, 2026 – April 5, 2026

What Is Listeria?

Listeria monocytogenes is a potentially lethal bacteria that can survive and grow at refrigerator temperatures. Symptoms of listeria infection may include high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain, and diarrhea. In pregnant women, listeria can cause miscarriages, stillbirths, or life-threatening infection of the newborn. According to the CDC, about 1,600 people in the U.S. get listeriosis each year, and approximately 260 die. It is considered one of the most serious forms of food poisoning due to its high hospitalization and fatality rates.

Statement from Sam’s Club

In a notice to its members, Sam’s Club said: “We are working closely with our supplier and regulatory authorities to ensure the issue is fully resolved. The safety of our members is our top priority, and we apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.” Sam’s Club has also sent notifications directly to affected customers based on purchase history, and posted signs in stores and on its website to inform members of the recall.

What to Do If You Have the Product

Customers who have purchased the recalled Member’s Mark freeze-dried fruit should:

  • Do not consume the product.

  • Dispose of it immediately in a sealed bag to prevent cross-contamination.

  • Visit any Sam’s Club location for a full refund, even without proof of purchase.
