South Florida Must Attend Sports This Week!
~ October 5th – Oct 11th ~
If there’s one thing you can count on in South Florida, it’s that there will always be a game, match, tournament or competition going on. From the Dolphins, Heat, Panthers and Inter Miami CF to UM college football, heated rivalries and local sporting events, the region is packed with action. Of course, getting there means dealing with South Florida traffic, battling the heat and keeping an eye on those afternoon thunderstorms that seem to have a talent for showing up at exactly the wrong time.
That’s where SFL.media comes in. Keeping up with South Florida sports can mean jumping between team websites, social media pages and countless other sources just to figure out what’s happening and where. We take the work out of that search by bringing the games, teams, athletes and sporting events together in one place. You worry about where you want to go. We’ll worry about finding what’s going on.
We cover sports across the region, from major professional matchups and college football showdowns to community competitions, tournaments and local sporting events. Whether you’re the kind of fan who builds the entire weekend around a game or someone simply looking for something fun to do, there’s always something worth checking out.
South Florida sports have a character all their own. They’re fast-paced, energetic, unpredictable and, every now and then, completely chaotic. But they’re rarely boring. SFL.media keeps you connected to what’s happening across the region and helps you find the games, events and competitions worth getting out of the house to experience.

International Friendly Soccer: Colombia vs. Peru @ Nu Stadium in Miami
Colombia and Peru meet in an international friendly on Tuesday, October 6, 2026, at Nu Stadium in Miami, as both South American national teams continue preparing for the next stage of the international soccer calendar. The match is part of Colombia’s September / October FIFA international window and is the final game of this particular break for Colombia.
For Colombia, this is less about qualifying for anything and more about building the next version of the national team. Colombia has already qualified for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, securing one of CONMEBOL’s six automatic qualification places during the South American qualifying campaign. Peru, meanwhile, did not qualify for the 2026 World Cup.
This is important because an international friendly does not count toward World Cup qualification. There are no qualification points at stake, and the winner does not advance to another tournament simply by winning this game. Instead, friendlies allow coaches to experiment with lineups, give younger players opportunities, test tactics and build chemistry without the pressure of a competitive qualifying match. Humanity somehow invented a version of soccer where the game matters tremendously to the fans while technically counting for absolutely nothing in the standings.
Colombia comes into the match after a 1-1 draw with Mexico and a 1-0 loss to Paraguay during this international window. Peru is also coming off a difficult stretch, including a 2-0 loss to Canada. The matchup nevertheless has some history behind it. Colombia and Peru faced each other during the 2026 World Cup qualifying campaign, drawing 1-1 in Peru in September 2024 and 0-0 in Barranquilla in June 2025. This friendly is therefore another chapter in a South American rivalry, but this time without qualification points hanging over the result.
For Colombia manager Néstor Lorenzo, the bigger objective is looking ahead. With the 2026 World Cup already completed, Colombia is beginning to transition toward the next international cycle, giving Lorenzo opportunities to evaluate players and combinations that could become important for future competitions, including the 2028 Copa América. Peru is in an even more significant rebuilding period after missing the World Cup and is also looking to develop its next generation.

Miami Heat vs. New Orleans Pelicans: NBA Preseason Game @ Kaseya Center in Miami
The Miami Heat will host the New Orleans Pelicans at Kaseya Center in Miami as both teams continue their 2026 NBA preseason.
For Miami, this is another chance to build chemistry around a dramatically revamped roster featuring Giannis Antetokounmpo, along with Bam Adebayo, Klay Thompson, Andrew Wiggins and Bobby Portis. The Heat opened preseason by crushing Toronto 129-105, with Giannis making his Miami debut and contributing nine points and seven assists in just 14 minutes.
New Orleans is beginning a four game preseason road slate and looking to establish its rotation and identity before the regular season begins. With preseason basketball, the final score matters considerably less than getting players comfortable together, testing lineups and avoiding the injury bug, humanity’s least favorite basketball tradition. The matchup should provide another early look at how Miami’s new pieces fit together and what the Pelicans can bring heading into the 2026-27 season.

Florida Panthers vs. Minnesota Wild: NHL Hockey @ Amerant Bank Arena in Sunrise
The Florida Panthers and Minnesota Wild are set to meet in a highly anticipated early-season matchup when Minnesota visits Amerant Bank Arena for Florida’s home opener. The Panthers enter the game after opening the season with a dramatic 1-0 overtime victory over Carolina, followed by overtime losses to San Jose and Anaheim.
The Wild have gotten off to a strong start, winning their first two games, including a 4-1 victory over Boston in which Kirill Kaprizov scored twice. Minnesota finished third in the Central Division last season and will provide a tough early test for a Florida team trying to establish its identity after a turbulent offseason.
For the Panthers, the game is particularly important because it marks their first home game of the 2026-27 regular season. Florida has won its last seven home openers, and the team will be looking to extend that streak while getting its season back on track. The matchup also features plenty of star power, including Matthew and Brady Tkachuk for Florida and Kaprizov, Matt Boldy and Quinn Hughes for Minnesota.

Inter Miami CF vs. DC United: Soccer Gme @ Nu Stadium in Miami
Inter Miami CF returns to MLS action on Saturday, October 10th, hosting DC United at Nu Stadium. The matchup comes at an important point in the regular season as Miami continues its push near the top of the Eastern Conference.
Miami enters the match with a 12-5-10 record and 46 points, but the club has hit a frustrating stretch, going winless in its last five league matches with four draws and a loss. The most recent setback was a 2-1 loss to Columbus Crew on September 28th. Despite that slump, Inter Miami remains one of MLS’s most dangerous attacking teams, averaging roughly 2.4 goals per game.
Naturally, much of the attention will be on Lionel Messi, who leads Miami with 21 goals and 11 assists this season. Luis Suárez has also provided plenty of firepower, giving Miami one of the league’s most formidable attacking combinations. D.C. United, meanwhile, will look to Tai Baribo, who has scored 14 goals this season, to keep the visitors in the game.
D.C. United comes into the match at 6-8-12, sitting outside the Eastern Conference playoff positions. The club has been competitive recently, however, including a wild 3-3 draw against Vancouver in its most recent match. The teams already met earlier this season, with Inter Miami earning a 2-1 victory on March 7th.
For Miami, this is less about simply beating DC United and more about getting the season pointed back in the right direction. With Messi leading an attack capable of scoring against anybody, Inter Miami has the talent to make a serious postseason run. But after dropping points repeatedly over the past month, Miami needs three points at home rather than another entertaining draw, because apparently soccer decided keeping fans nervous was part of the entertainment package.

Miami Heat vs. Minnesota Timberwolves: NBA Preseason Game @ Kaseya Center in Miami
The Miami Heat will host the Minnesota Timberwolves in another matchup of the 2026 NBA preseason.
The game gives Miami another opportunity to work on its revamped roster and continue building chemistry around Giannis Antetokounmpo and Bam Adebayo. Minnesota brings a talented group led by Anthony Edwards, giving the Heat an early test against a Western Conference contender. With the regular season still ahead, expect both teams to experiment with rotations and manage minutes rather than treat this like Game 7 of the Finals, because apparently preseason basketball has to pretend it isn’t preseason basketball.

Miami Dolphins vs. Cincinnati Bengals: NFL Football Game @ Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens
The Miami Dolphins return home Sunday looking for their first win of the 2026 season when they host the Cincinnati Bengals at Hard Rock Stadium. Miami enters the matchup at 0-4 after a frustrating 15-10 loss to the Minnesota Vikings, while Cincinnati is 2-2 after dropping its last two games, including a 22-17 loss to Jacksonville.
For Miami, the biggest challenge continues to be an offense that has struggled badly to generate points. The Dolphins are averaging just 11.5 points per game, the lowest figure in the NFL through four weeks. Quarterback Malik Willis has shown flashes with his legs and arm, but Cincinnati brings a defense that has generated pressure on 38% of opposing dropbacks and already has 14 sacks. Miami will also be without star running back De’Von Achane, who suffered a torn ACL earlier this season. Rookie Ollie Gordon II did provide a spark against Minnesota, rushing for 100 yards and a touchdown.
Cincinnati has problems of its own. Quarterback Joe Burrow remains capable of changing a game, but the Bengals could be without both of their top receivers. Ja’Marr Chase remains in the concussion protocol, while Tee Higgins is considered day to day with an adductor injury after catching 11 passes for 157 yards against Jacksonville. That could dramatically alter the Bengals’ offensive game plan if either or both are unavailable.
