The Atlanta Braves erased an early four-run deficit and surged late behind a clutch performance from Dominic Smith, defeating the Miami Marlins 6–5 on Tuesday night in a dramatic comeback victory.
Smith delivered the decisive blow in the eighth inning, ripping a go-ahead three-run double to the warning track in left-center field that capped a four-RBI night and lifted Atlanta from a 5–3 deficit to its first lead of the game. The veteran first baseman also drove in the Braves’ first run with a single in the second inning and continued his torrid start to the season, raising his average to .395 with 15 RBIs.
Miami struck early, taking a 4–0 lead through two innings. Agustín Ramírez opened the scoring with a sacrifice fly in the first before the Marlins added three more runs in the second on RBI singles by Connor Norby and Jakob Marsee, along with an RBI double from Graham Pauley off Braves starter Reynaldo López.
Atlanta chipped away in the third inning against Marlins starter Max Meyer. Drake Baldwin and Matt Olson each delivered RBI doubles to trim the deficit to 4–3, shifting momentum back toward the Braves.
Baldwin finished with two hits and an RBI, continuing his productive stretch at the plate and pushing his season RBI total to 18. Olson also contributed offensively while reaching a remarkable milestone—appearing in his 800th consecutive game, the 11th-longest streak in Major League Baseball history.
Miami briefly regained breathing room in the eighth inning when Otto Lopez delivered a run-scoring single off Braves reliever Robert Suarez (2–0). But Atlanta responded immediately in the bottom half.
Baldwin ignited the rally with a leadoff single against Marlins reliever Pete Fairbanks (0–1). After a two-out single by Mike Yastrzemski and a hit-by-pitch to Ozzie Albies loaded the bases, Smith delivered the decisive three-run double that flipped the game in Atlanta’s favor.
Earlier in the contest, the Braves also flashed defensive excellence when Ronald Acuña Jr. fired a throw to second base that started a relay involving Mauricio Dubón and Baldwin to cut down Javier Sanoja at the plate, preventing another Marlins run.
Closer Raisel Iglesias sealed the comeback with a perfect ninth inning, striking out two batters to record his 100th save with Atlanta and third of the season.
With the victory, the Braves completed a resilient rally after trailing 4–0 early and positioned themselves to take the series in Wednesday’s finale. Atlanta will send right-hander Bryce Elder (1–1, 1.02 ERA) to the mound against Marlins right-hander Chris Paddack (0–2, 6.14 ERA).
