Arrest Warrant Issued in New Mexico
Federal authorities have joined local law enforcement in the search for actor and director Timothy Busfield after a New Mexico judge signed an arrest warrant accusing him of child sex abuse. The warrant was issued Friday following allegations involving two young boys, prompting investigators to escalate efforts to locate Busfield after they were unable to immediately take him into custody.
Allegations Tied to Television Set
According to court documents, the accusations stem from incidents that allegedly occurred while Busfield was working as a director and executive producer on a television series filmed in Albuquerque. The two children, who were cast as actors on the show, told investigators that inappropriate touching happened multiple times beginning when they were around seven years old. The alleged conduct is said to have taken place in work related settings connected to the production.
Charges Outlined in Court Records
Prosecutors charged Busfield with two counts of criminal sexual contact with a minor and one count of child abuse. The complaint states that the children reported the behavior to adults and medical professionals, triggering a broader investigation. Authorities said earlier inquiries did not initially lead to charges, but additional information later provided by the children’s mother resulted in the arrest warrant.
Federal Assistance Brought In
With Busfield’s whereabouts unknown days after the warrant was issued, the U.S. Marshals Service was asked to assist in locating him. Law enforcement officials said the involvement of federal marshals is standard in cases where a suspect cannot be quickly found and does not necessarily indicate flight, though no public details have been released about whether investigators believe Busfield has left the area.
Response and Denial
Busfield has publicly denied the allegations, calling them false and stating through representatives that he intends to fight the charges in court. He has not been taken into custody as of the latest update, and no court appearance has yet been scheduled.
Presumption of Innocence and Ongoing Investigation
Authorities emphasized that the case remains active and urged anyone with information about Busfield’s location to contact law enforcement. As with all criminal cases, Busfield is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
