Woman in USPS Uniform Steals $4,624 in Designer Sunglasses from Pembroke Lakes Mall
PEMBROKE PINES, Fla. — A woman dressed as a U.S. Postal Service worker made off with more than $4,600 worth of designer sunglasses last month, and police are now asking for the public’s help identifying her.
According to Pembroke Pines police, the theft occurred on June 11 at the Sunglass Hut inside Pembroke Lakes Mall. The suspect, described as a Black woman with black hair, entered the store wearing a USPS shirt and calmly walked out with $4,624 in stolen sunglasses.
Authorities say the woman was caught on camera during the theft. It’s unclear whether she is actually employed by the Postal Service or simply wearing the uniform as a disguise. The calculated nature of the crime and use of a government uniform suggest a level of planning not typical in run-of-the-mill shoplifting cases.
A Bold Heist in Broad Daylight
Mall security footage reportedly captured the entire incident, but so far, no arrests have been made. The suspect’s USPS attire may have helped her avoid suspicion as she browsed the store and made her move.
Investigators are now releasing images from the surveillance video in hopes someone will recognize her.
Public Urged to Come Forward
Anyone with information is urged to contact Detective Abbey directly at 954-901-5336 or the Pembroke Pines Police Department at 954-431-2225.
No additional suspects have been named, and the woman’s identity remains unknown. Police have not ruled out the possibility that this theft may be part of a broader retail crime pattern.
Bigger Picture: Theft With a Uniform
Retail theft in South Florida has increasingly involved creative disguises, including official uniforms and even stolen badges. In this case, the use of a federal agency’s apparel to commit a crime not only undermines public trust but potentially carries additional legal consequences if proven to be intentional misrepresentation.
If you recognize the suspect or have any information, do the right thing and make the call. A local business was hit, and the community deserves accountability.
