Actor Timothy Busfield Arrested For Sexual Assault on Two Twin Boys

Warrant Issued for Actor Timothy Busfield on Child Sex Abuse Charges in New Mexico

An arrest warrant has been issued for veteran actor and director Timothy Busfield following allegations of sexual abuse involving minors in Albuquerque, according to court documents filed in Bernalillo County. Busfield, 68, an Emmy-winning actor best known for roles in Field of Dreams, thirtysomething, and The West Wing, faces two felony counts of sexual contact with a minor and child abuse, authorities confirmed. As of Saturday morning, it remained unclear whether Busfield had been taken into custody.

How the Investigation Began

According to documents obtained by KOAT, the investigation dates back to November 2024, when Albuquerque police were dispatched to University of New Mexico Hospital after a physician contacted law enforcement. Officers spoke with parents who reported concerns involving their two sons, both child actors on the Fox television drama The Cleaning Lady, a series Busfield joined as a director.

Court records state that Busfield allegedly told the children to refer to him as “Uncle Tim.” When questioned by their mother about inappropriate contact, the children responded, “You mean like Uncle Tim?” At that time, police determined the reported behavior described as tickling the children on their stomachs and legs did not meet the legal threshold for criminal charges.

New Allegations Surface in 2025

The case escalated in October 2025, when one parent reported to Child Protective Services that the children disclosed sexual abuse allegedly occurring between November 2022 and spring 2024. According to the affidavit, one child told a therapist that Busfield touched his genitalia and buttocks on multiple occasions while on set. These disclosures prompted renewed law enforcement involvement and the issuance of the arrest warrant on January 4, 2026. Albuquerque Police Officer Marvin Brown characterized the alleged conduct as “classic grooming behavior.”

“He would invite the family to off-set gatherings, with his wife buying Christmas gifts to foster closeness, making the child feel special and dependent, classic grooming to erode boundaries, isolate the victim, and silence suspicions by blending abuse into normalcy,” Brown wrote in the affidavit.

Busfield Denies Wrongdoing

When interviewed by investigators, Busfield reportedly acknowledged having “playful” contact with the children but denied any sexual intent or misconduct. According to police, Busfield suggested the allegations stemmed from parental anger after the children were not brought back for the show’s final season. Busfield is married to actress Melissa Gilbert. Neither Busfield nor his representatives have publicly commented on the charges as of publication.

Industry Response

Warner Bros. Television, which produced The Cleaning Lady for Fox, released a statement acknowledging the allegations and confirming cooperation with authorities.

“The health and safety of our cast and crew is always our top priority, especially the safety of minors on our productions,” the company said.

“We take all allegations of misconduct very seriously and have systems in place to promptly and thoroughly investigate, and when needed, take appropriate action.”

Career Background

Busfield has amassed more than 700 credits across acting, directing, and producing. He won a Primetime Emmy Award in 1991 for his role as Elliot Weston on thirtysomething and appeared in numerous high-profile films and television series throughout the 1980s, 1990s, and 2000s.

Legal Status

Court records indicate Busfield is being held on $1 million bail. The case remains active, and authorities have emphasized that the allegations have not yet been adjudicated in court. As with all criminal cases, Busfield is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
