Chicago Sends Two First Round Picks to Tennessee
The Chicago Bears are making a major investment in their defense, acquiring All-Pro defensive tackle Jeffery Simmons from the Tennessee Titans in a blockbuster trade. The Bears will send their 2027 and 2028 first-round draft picks, along with a 2027 fourth-round selection, to Tennessee in exchange for Simmons and a 2028 fifth-round pick, according to sources cited by Schefter.
The deal brings one of the NFL’s premier interior defensive linemen to Chicago, giving the Bears a proven pass rusher and a powerful presence in the middle of their defensive front. In surrendering two first-round picks, Chicago is making a significant commitment to strengthening its defense with a player who has consistently produced at an elite level.
Simmons Brings All Pro Production to Chicago
Simmons, 29, is coming off the best season of his NFL career. He earned first-team All-Pro honors last season after recording a career-high 11 sacks, establishing himself as one of the league’s most disruptive defensive tackles. He has continued to produce this season, registering four sacks in seven games for Tennessee.
Over eight NFL seasons, Simmons has accumulated 46.5 sacks and earned four Pro Bowl selections. His ability to pressure opposing quarterbacks from the interior makes him a valuable addition for the Bears, who are acquiring a defensive lineman capable of disrupting passing plays and creating opportunities for teammates along the defensive front.
Titans Trade Cornerstone Despite Long Term Contract
Tennessee is parting ways with one of its most important defensive players just months after making a substantial financial commitment to keep him. Simmons signed a three-year, $105.8 million contract extension in June, including $100 million guaranteed. He is under contract through the 2030 season, making the trade a significant shift in direction for the Titans.
In return, Tennessee receives two first-round picks and a fourth-round selection, providing the franchise with additional draft capital to help reshape its roster. The Titans will also receive a fifth-round pick from Chicago as part of the agreement.
Bears Bet on Immediate Defensive Impact
For Chicago, the trade signals a willingness to sacrifice valuable future draft assets in exchange for an established defensive star entering the prime years of his career. Simmons’ combination of strength, pass-rushing ability and experience should give the Bears a major boost along the defensive line.
His career-best 11-sack campaign last season and four sacks through seven games this year demonstrate the consistent production Chicago is adding to its roster. The acquisition also raises expectations for a Bears defense that will now feature one of the NFL’s most accomplished interior pass rushers.
While surrendering two first-round selections carries considerable long-term risk, Chicago is betting that Simmons can deliver an immediate impact and help elevate the team’s defensive performance. For Tennessee, the return of multiple premium draft picks offers an opportunity to build for the future. For Chicago, the message is clear: the Bears are willing to pay a steep price to bring an elite defensive talent to town.
