Brenen Lorient Shines Off the Bench as North Texas Tops Florida Atlantic 77-64

In a pivotal American Athletic Conference matchup, the North Texas Mean Green surged to a 77-64 victory over Florida Atlantic on Sunday, thanks to a stellar performance by Brenen Lorient. The junior forward provided a spark off the bench, scoring 17 points on an efficient 7-of-11 shooting, including 3-of-4 from the free-throw line. The win improved North Texas to 15-4 overall and 6-1 in AAC play, while Florida Atlantic fell to 10-10 overall and 3-4 in conference action.

Lorient wasn’t the only standout for the Mean Green. Atin Wright matched Lorient’s scoring output with 17 points, shooting 6-for-13 from the field and a sharp 4-for-8 from beyond the arc. Moulaye Sissoko also made his presence felt in the paint, contributing 14 points on 5-of-7 shooting and adding four free throws.

For Florida Atlantic, Kaleb Glenn led the way with a game-high 20 points and seven rebounds, showcasing his versatility on both ends of the floor. Baba Miller chipped in with 11 points and seven boards, while Tre Carroll added 10 points and six rebounds in the loss.

North Texas found themselves trailing 34-27 at halftime after Florida Atlantic controlled the pace in the opening half. Wright’s eight first-half points helped keep the Mean Green within striking distance, but they needed a spark coming out of the break.

That spark came midway through the second half. Down by two points, the Mean Green ignited a 7-0 run to grab a 53-48 lead with just over 10 minutes remaining. Lorient, who scored 12 of his 17 points in the second half, was instrumental in the surge, hitting key shots to keep the momentum firmly in North Texas favor. From there, the Mean Green never looked back, outscoring the Owls 50-30 in the second half to seal the victory.

Florida Atlantic will aim to bounce back at home against UTSA on Wednesday night, while North Texas hits the road for a challenging matchup against Wichita State. As the conference race heats up, both teams will look to build momentum heading into the stretch run of the season.

With Lorient stepping up alongside Wright and Sissoko, North Texas continues to solidify its position as a contender in the American Athletic Conference, while Florida Atlantic will need to regroup to remain in the hunt.
