Broward Woman Goes on Wild Carjacking and Hit and Run Spree, Allegedly Tries to Steal Good Samaritan’s Car Before Crashing Into Deerfield Beach Gas Station

Broward Woman Accused of Wild Carjacking and Hit-and-Run Spree After Crashing Into Deerfield Beach Gas Station

Investigators say Roszetta Benjamin was driving a stolen vehicle when she caused multiple collisions, attempted to take a Good Samaritan’s car and crashed into a Mobil gas station. She now faces serious felony allegations.

DEERFIELD BEACH, FLORIDA — A 44 year old woman is facing multiple felony allegations after authorities say she went on a chaotic driving and carjacking spree through Deerfield Beach, causing several collisions, fleeing crash scenes and attempting to steal a vehicle from a Good Samaritan who stopped to help her. The incident ended when the second vehicle crashed into a Mobil gas station near Hillsboro Boulevard and Federal Highway, prompting an emergency response from Broward County deputies and fire rescue personnel.

The suspect, identified as Roszetta Benjamin, was arrested following the Friday afternoon incidents. According to reporting by WPLG Local 10, NBC 6 South Florida and CBS Miami, investigators allege Benjamin was already driving a stolen vehicle when she became involved in a series of crashes. Authorities have reported allegations involving grand theft auto, hit and run, carjacking and kidnapping. Benjamin has not been convicted of these offenses, and the allegations remain subject to criminal proceedings.

Stolen Vehicle Allegedly Involved in Multiple Hit and Run Crashes

According to investigators, the sequence began near Northeast 54th Street and Federal Highway, where Benjamin allegedly caused a collision involving three other vehicles while driving a stolen car. Rather than remaining at the scene, authorities say she fled, leaving behind damaged vehicles and motorists involved in the crash. The incident was the first in a series of dangerous encounters that unfolded along the busy Deerfield Beach commercial corridor.

Investigators say Benjamin continued driving until she became involved in another collision near North Federal Highway and Hillsboro Boulevard. The second crash disabled the stolen vehicle, apparently leaving her stranded near one of the area’s major intersections. Although the vehicle could no longer be driven, the situation escalated when another motorist stopped to offer assistance.

Carjacking Spree Ends in Crash

Good Samaritan Allegedly Targeted in Attempted Carjacking

According to the allegations described by Local 10, a man stopped to help Benjamin after her vehicle became disabled. Instead of accepting his assistance, investigators say Benjamin attempted to take the man’s vehicle, leading to a physical struggle between the two. During the confrontation, she allegedly managed to shift the vehicle into drive, causing it to move forward and crash into a nearby Mobil gas station on Hillsboro Boulevard.

The confrontation transformed what initially appeared to be a routine roadside assistance encounter into another potentially dangerous incident. Authorities have reported a kidnapping allegation among the offenses associated with Benjamin’s arrest, although the available reporting does not fully explain the specific conduct underlying that charge. Investigators have not publicly established why Benjamin allegedly took the first vehicle or what prompted the attempted theft of the Good Samaritan’s car.

Emergency Crews Respond as One Person Is Hospitalized

Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue responded to the area of Hillsboro Boulevard and North Federal Highway at approximately 2:50 p.m. Friday after receiving reports of the crashes and a vehicle striking the gas station. Emergency personnel evaluated people involved in the incidents, and one individual was transported to a hospital for further assessment and treatment. The person’s identity and the full extent of the injuries were not immediately disclosed.

Local reporting indicated that injuries sustained in the earlier collisions were minor or not considered life-threatening. Fire rescue officials also conducted an initial assessment of the Mobil station after the vehicle struck the building. Preliminary observations suggested the structure had not suffered significant structural damage, although the total extent of the property damage had not been established in the available reports.

Multiple Felony Allegations and Initial Court Appearance

Benjamin was taken into custody and brought before a Broward County judge for an initial hearing. According to Local 10, she declined to appear on camera during the proceeding, where a judge found probable cause for several allegations, including grand theft auto, leaving the scene of a crash involving injuries and carjacking. She was initially held without bond, with additional matters expected to be addressed during subsequent court proceedings.

The Broward Sheriff’s Office has also identified kidnapping among the allegations arising from the incident. The precise charges, bond conditions and future hearing dates will depend on the formal court record and subsequent prosecutorial decisions. A judge’s finding of probable cause permits a criminal case to proceed but does not establish that the defendant committed the alleged offenses.

Investigation Continues Into Chaotic Deerfield Beach Incident

Investigators are continuing to examine the circumstances surrounding the original stolen vehicle, the crashes along Federal Highway, the confrontation with the Good Samaritan and the collision at the Mobil station. The available reporting has not established whether investigators have identified a motive, whether surveillance footage captured the entire sequence or whether prosecutors intend to amend the charges as additional evidence is reviewed.

The incident left several motorists dealing with the aftermath of collisions, sent at least one person to a hospital and placed a man who stopped to help in the middle of an alleged carjacking. What authorities describe as a sequence of vehicle theft and hit-and-run offenses ultimately ended in Benjamin’s arrest and a developing criminal case in Broward County. Benjamin is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court.
