Buccaneers Dominate Panthers 43-13 Behind Bucky Irving’s Two Touchdowns

Buccaneers Establish Control From the Opening Drive

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers delivered one of their most complete performances of the season Sunday, overpowering the Carolina Panthers 43-13 behind a dominant rushing attack, a relentless defense and a series of costly mistakes by their division rivals.

Bucky Irving rushed for 106 yards and two touchdowns as Tampa Bay piled up 258 yards on the ground on 49 carries. The Buccaneers’ defense forced four turnovers, sacked Carolina quarterback Bryce Young five times and even scored a defensive touchdown in a blowout that was effectively decided by halftime.

Quarterback Baker Mayfield returned after missing the previous three games and did not need to do much as Tampa Bay took control early. The Buccaneers improved to 2-5, while the Panthers fell to 3-3 after a frustrating afternoon in which their mistakes repeatedly handed Tampa Bay opportunities to extend its lead.

Irving Leads Tampa Bay’s Ground and Pound Attack

Tampa Bay won the coin toss and elected to receive, setting the tone with a methodical 70-yard drive that consumed 14 plays. Irving capped the possession with a 4-yard touchdown run, giving the Buccaneers an early lead and establishing the ground game as the foundation of their offensive attack.

The Buccaneers continued to wear down Carolina, scoring on five of their next seven possessions as Irving and the offensive line controlled the line of scrimmage. Tampa Bay finished with 258 rushing yards, consistently moving the chains and keeping the Panthers’ defense on the field.

Irving’s two touchdown runs highlighted a productive afternoon for the Buccaneers’ rushing attack, which allowed the team to maintain control without asking much of its returning quarterback.

Mayfield Makes a Successful Return

Mayfield, who had missed Tampa Bay’s previous three games, completed seven of 11 passes for 64 yards and a touchdown. With the Buccaneers building a commanding lead, he was able to operate within a conservative game plan that emphasized running the football and avoiding unnecessary risks.

The victory also continued Mayfield’s success against Carolina. He improved to 7-1 against the Panthers in his career, including a 6-1 record since joining Tampa Bay. With the rushing attack producing and the defense creating opportunities, Mayfield’s limited workload was more than enough to help the Buccaneers secure a convincing division victory.

Panthers Mistakes Fuel Tampa Bay’s Rout

Carolina quarterback Bryce Young endured a difficult afternoon against Tampa Bay’s defense. Young, who had led the NFL in passing yards per game, completed 14 of 27 attempts for 163 yards and a touchdown. He also threw two interceptions, lost a fumble and was sacked five times.

The Buccaneers repeatedly pressured Young, disrupting Carolina’s offensive rhythm and turning mistakes into scoring opportunities. YaYa Diaby led the pass rush with three sacks, accounting for a significant portion of Tampa Bay’s five sacks.

One of the biggest plays came when Al-Quadin Muhammad strip-sacked Young. Defensive lineman Calijah Kancey recovered the loose ball and returned it 32 yards for a touchdown, adding another blow to Carolina’s already difficult afternoon. The defensive touchdown underscored Tampa Bay’s ability to capitalize on Carolina’s mistakes and turn pressure into points.

Special Teams Deliver a Costly Blow

Tampa Bay’s special teams contributed to the rout, creating another damaging moment after Carolina appeared to gain some momentum. Young connected with Darren Waller on a 50-yard touchdown pass down the middle of the field, cutting the Buccaneers’ lead to 17-6. However, the Panthers’ celebration was short lived.

Tampa Bay blocked the ensuing extra point attempt, and Zyon McCollum returned the ball 70 yards for a two-point defensive conversion. Instead of making the score closer, Carolina came away with only four points from the touchdown sequence.

The Buccaneers also recovered a muffed punt by David Moore, adding another turnover to a game in which Carolina struggled to execute in all three phases. Those mistakes helped Tampa Bay build a 33-6 halftime advantage, leaving the Panthers with a steep uphill climb in the second half.

Buccaneers Break Out of Their Close Game Pattern

Sunday’s victory was particularly notable because Tampa Bay had played 12 consecutive one-score games dating to last season. Against Carolina, the Buccaneers finally turned a competitive matchup into a decisive victory.

The combination of Irving’s rushing production, Mayfield’s efficient return, a disruptive pass rush and opportunistic special teams proved too much for the Panthers to overcome. Tampa Bay consistently won the field-position battle, controlled possession and punished Carolina whenever the visitors made a mistake.

For Carolina, the loss exposed problems that extended beyond Young’s struggles. The Panthers could not establish consistent offensive momentum, protect their quarterback or prevent Tampa Bay from turning turnovers into points.

Up Coming Football for Tampa Bay and Carolina

The Buccaneers will look to build on the performance as they continue their NFC South schedule. Irving’s production provides a promising foundation for the offense, while the defense demonstrated how pressure and opportunistic playmaking can change the course of a game.

Carolina, meanwhile, must regroup after a performance marked by turnovers, missed opportunities and defensive breakdowns. Young and the Panthers’ offense will need to improve their ball security and execution to remain competitive in the division.

Tampa Bay’s 43-13 victory was a statement performance built on physical football and complementary play. Irving powered the ground attack, the defense created four turnovers, and the special teams added a pivotal score of their own, allowing the Buccaneers to turn a division matchup into a one sided affair.
