Burglars in Poinciana Call 911 for Help Moving Stolen Goods

Poinciana Pair Arrested After 911 Call to Move Stolen Belongings

POINCIANA, Fla. – In an unusual turn of events, two individuals were arrested in Poinciana after one of them made a 911 call seeking assistance with moving their belongings from a home they were burglarizing, according to the Polk County Sheriff’s Office.

The incident unfolded when deputies responded to a 911 call with no one speaking on the other end. Upon arrival at the residence, deputies initially believed the house was empty. However, they discovered an unlocked sliding glass door at the back of the property and entered the home.

Inside, deputies encountered two suspects: 23-year-old Martin Gonzalez-Garcia and 22-year-old Ashializ Roldan-Oscasio. Authorities had been searching for Gonzalez-Garcia after identifying him from a security video as a suspect in an earlier burglary at a Dollar General store in Kissimmee, where he had stolen several items.

The couple explained that they had taken refuge in the house for the night as they needed a place to stay. However, Gonzalez-Garcia admitted to the Dollar General burglary, stating he needed to sell the stolen items to make money. “Martin stated he knew what he did was wrong, but needed the money,” the arrest affidavit read. “Martin stated he knew the residence was not his and did not have permission to be in, but had to get inside to get out of the cold.”

The home, located on Cardinal Court, was confirmed by the realtor to be unauthorized for the suspects’ use. He stated that he did not know either of them and had not given permission for them to be inside.

In a bizarre twist, Roldan-Oscasio told deputies that she called 911 to request law enforcement’s help in moving their belongings from the house they were burglarizing. She also hoped to get a ride to the airport to spend the weekend in New York.

The Polk County Sheriff’s Office shared the story on Facebook, stating, “Deputies DID help them with their belongings, and DID give them a ride, but it wasn’t to the airport … it was to the Polk Pokey. And they are welcome to stay there all weekend long. The Polk Pokey is much better than New York anyway.”

Gonzalez-Garcia faces charges of burglary and theft related to the Dollar General store, in addition to burglary of a residence. Roldan-Oscasio is charged with burglary of a residence. Both are also facing charges for possession of cannabis and drug paraphernalia, as neither have medical marijuana cards.

This incident highlights the unexpected and often strange situations law enforcement officers encounter in their line of duty, demonstrating both the peculiarities of criminal behavior and the vigilance of local authorities in ensuring community safety.
