Cadillac Escalade Owner Chases Car Thieves While Calling 911 In Miami

Westchester Man Tracks Down Stolen Cadillac Escalade, Two Suspects Arrested in Hialeah

MIAMI — A Westchester man’s determination to recover his stolen SUV led to a 14-mile pursuit ending in Hialeah, where police apprehended two suspects and recovered the vehicle.

The man, identified only as John, said the ordeal began shortly after 2 a.m. when his cell phone app alerted him that his 2024 Cadillac Escalade was being stolen from his driveway.

“I was home when I was notified around 2 a.m. that the car actually left my house,” John told reporters. “I came outside, noticed my car was gone, and hopped in my wife’s car to track it using the app.”

John followed the Escalade’s location, which took him through the Miami International Airport area before the pursuit ended at West 14th Avenue and 39th Place in Hialeah.

During the chase, John stayed on the phone with police dispatchers, providing real-time updates about the suspects’ movements. “I pretty much caught up with them and followed them at high speed,” he said.

Suspects Arrested, Two Remain at Large

Hialeah police reported that when the suspects stopped the vehicle, four individuals fled on foot into nearby residential areas. Officers arrested two suspects, identified as 19-year-olds Jakari Jawan Ford and Rakeem Huey. Two other suspects remain at large.

“Right now, two people are in custody, and two are out there,” John said. “I want justice to be served so we can find all four who went on the joyride.”

John also revealed that a neighbor’s Ring camera captured one of the suspects attempting to break into another vehicle in the area before the Escalade was stolen.

Safety Concerns

While John’s pursuit ended without injury, police emphasized the potential dangers of such actions. “It’s important to contact law enforcement and avoid getting too close to suspects,” a Hialeah police spokesperson warned. “These individuals could be armed, and it’s not worth risking your life.”

John expressed frustration over the theft of his vehicle, which he worked hard to afford. “I paid for my car. If you want a car like that, buy your own. Why take something that’s not yours?”

Ongoing Investigation

Police are continuing their search for the two remaining suspects and have urged anyone with information to come forward. Meanwhile, John’s case highlights both the risks and rewards of using modern technology to track stolen property.

Authorities are reminding the public to prioritize safety and let law enforcement handle such incidents. “While this situation had a successful outcome, it’s always best to leave pursuits to trained professionals,” said the spokesperson.
