Chicago Bears Dominate Jacksonville Jaguars in London as Caleb Williams Shines and Cole Kmet Takes on Emergency Long-Snapping Duties

In a memorable Week 6 NFL matchup at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London, the Chicago Bears cruised to a 35-16 victory over the Jacksonville Jaguars. Quarterback Caleb Williams threw for four touchdown passes, while tight end Cole Kmet played a dual role—contributing both as a receiver and in a surprise special teams capacity.

Williams delivered an impressive performance, showcasing his dynamic arm by connecting for four touchdowns. His accurate passing and ability to extend plays were key to the Bears’ third straight win, a feat the team hasn’t accomplished in nearly four years. Two of Williams’ touchdowns went to veteran wide receiver Keenan Allen, including a 9-yard strike that was followed by a playful tea party celebration in honor of the London setting. Allen’s second touchdown catch put the Bears up 28-10 early in the fourth quarter.

Cole Kmet, who had five receptions for 70 yards, was pivotal in the Bears’ offense, scoring two touchdowns himself. But it was his unexpected role as an emergency long snapper that became a story of resilience and quick thinking.

The game took an unexpected turn when Bears’ long snapper Scott Daly suffered a knee injury early on, leaving the team without a specialist for the role. Kmet, who was the designated emergency long snapper due to his experience in high school, was called into action. Despite taking only a few practice snaps each week, Kmet performed the duties flawlessly, ensuring smooth snaps on each of Williams’ touchdown passes and on D’Andre Swift’s 1-yard touchdown plunge.

Kmet later admitted that long-snapping was his biggest fear in football, but he embraced the challenge without hesitation. His reliability in this makeshift role helped stabilize the Bears’ special teams during the game.

D’Andre Swift added a physical presence to the Bears‘ offense, rushing 17 times for 91 yards and a touchdown. Swift’s consistency in the ground game helped maintain offensive balance, keeping the Jaguars’ defense on its heels throughout the contest.

Keenan Allen’s presence was equally vital, especially in the passing game. His leadership on the field and enthusiasm after his touchdowns rallied the Bears, further energizing the London crowd.

Trevor Lawrence did his best to keep Jacksonville competitive, completing 23 of 35 passes for 234 yards with two touchdowns and one interception. Tight end Evan Engram was his go-to target, racking up 10 catches for 102 yards. However, the Jaguars struggled to convert key third downs and sustain drives, leaving them trailing throughout the game.

The win improves the Bears to 4-2, solidifying their position in the NFC playoff race. They will look to build on this momentum in the coming weeks, buoyed by Williams’ leadership and their newfound winning streak.

The Jaguars, meanwhile, stay in London for another week, where they will “host” the New England Patriots at Wembley Stadium. Jacksonville will aim to bounce back and regain footing in a competitive AFC South division.

The Bears’ victory in London not only showcased their offensive firepower but also highlighted the importance of depth and adaptability in football. With Caleb Williams’ star power and Cole Kmet’s unexpected versatility, Chicago left Tottenham Hotspur Stadium with a win—and a story to remember.
