Cowboys Rally from 21-Point Deficit to Edge Eagles 24-21 in Thrilling Comeback

Dak Prescott wasn’t ready to celebrate breaking one of Tony Romo’s records Sunday — not when the Dallas Cowboys were still clawing their way back from a 21-point hole against the defending Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles. “Save it for the win,” Prescott said, and when the final whistle blew, the celebration was well-earned.

Prescott threw two touchdown passes, ran for the tying score, and orchestrated the drive that set up Brandon Aubrey’s 42-yard game-winning field goal as time expired, completing a mistake-filled 24-21 comeback. In the process, Prescott broke Romo’s record, earning his 25th career winning drive when trailing or tied in the fourth quarter or overtime.

The Cowboys (5-5-1) converted on their third tiebreaking chance late in the fourth quarter, extending Prescott’s home winning streak against NFC East opponents to 19 games. This was also Dallas’ first game at AT&T Stadium since the death of defensive end Marshawn Kneeland.

The Eagles (8-3), still in strong position to become the first repeat NFC East champions since Philadelphia won four straight from 2001-2004, struggled with consistency. A.J. Brown, who sparked the Eagles’ 21-0 lead with a dominant first-quarter performance, went quiet after that initial surge. Philadelphia lost despite holding a 21-point lead for the first time since a 25-24 loss to Arizona in 1999.

Dallas’ comeback mirrored a long-dormant feat: it was their first win when trailing by three touchdowns since beating the Rams 34-31 in 2014. Prescott broke Romo’s record on a 9-yard pass to George Pickens on his first throw of the second half, reducing the deficit to 21-7.

The game started in Dallas’ favor — for Philadelphia. The Cowboys committed costly early mistakes, including penalties that extended the Eagles’ second touchdown drive and a false start at the 1-yard line that led to an interception in the end zone, keeping the score 21-0.

Philadelphia faltered late, beginning with Saquon Barkley’s first fumble of the season. Dallas failed to capitalize immediately, but Xavier Gipson’s fumble inside the 10 after fielding a punt at the Philadelphia 2 gave Dallas another opportunity. Alijah Clark, along with Markquese Bell, forced the turnover despite nearly falling multiple times during the play.

Prescott couldn’t punch in the end zone on three tries from the 2-yard line, with the final attempt — a pass to Jake Ferguson — falling short. Osa Odighizuwa extended the Cowboys’ hopes by sacking Jalen Hurts on third down with 1:52 left. A clutch 24-yard pass from Prescott to Pickens set up Aubrey’s game-winning kick.

Pickens had a career day with nine receptions for 146 yards and a touchdown. CeeDee Lamb’s 48-yard grab helped set up Brevyn Spann-Ford’s first career touchdown, a 4-yarder that brought Dallas within one score late in the third quarter. Prescott’s tying 8-yard touchdown run came early in the fourth after a scramble left that saw him dive over the goal line.

Hurts had a productive day with a passing touchdown and two rushing scores, but the Eagles’ running game, led by Barkley, struggled, as he was limited to 22 yards on 10 carries.

Dallas now looks ahead to their annual home Thanksgiving showdown against the Kansas City Chiefs Thursday, while Philadelphia hosts Chicago on Friday.
