DART Announces Early Plans for FIFA World Cup 2026 in Dallas

DART Plan for the FIFA World Cup in Dallas

Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART) has unveiled preliminary plans to accommodate the surge of visitors expected during the FIFA World Cup 2026, as Dallas gears up to be one of the host cities for the global tournament.

What is DART?
DART is the public transportation authority serving Dallas and surrounding cities in North Texas. With a network that includes light rail, buses, paratransit services, and the Trinity Railway Express (TRE) commuter rail, DART plays a critical role in keeping the city and its suburbs connected.

What is the FIFA World Cup?
The FIFA World Cup is the largest international soccer (football) tournament in the world, held every four years. It features national teams from around the globe competing for the title of world champion. In 2026, the tournament will be co-hosted by the United States, Mexico, and Canada, marking the first time three countries have shared hosting duties. Dallas will host multiple matches at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, one of the largest and most advanced sports venues in the U.S.

DART’s Early Preparations
DART officials announced this week that the agency has begun preparing for the anticipated influx of fans, media, and tourists expected during the summer of 2026. While specific timetables and projects are still being finalized, early plans include:

  • Increased Service Frequency: DART light rail and bus lines will see expanded hours and more frequent service during match days to accommodate increased ridership.

  • Temporary Shuttle Services: Special shuttle routes may be added between key hotel zones, downtown Dallas, and AT&T Stadium in Arlington.

  • Station Upgrades and Wayfinding: DART is planning upgrades at several major stations, including additional signage in multiple languages, improved lighting, and expanded real-time information systems.

  • Accessibility and Safety Enhancements: DART is coordinating with local law enforcement and emergency services to ensure a safe and accessible experience for all attendees.

  • Community Engagement and Volunteer Programs: DART plans to launch volunteer and ambassador programs to assist visitors with navigation and transit support during the event.

Working with Partners
DART is collaborating closely with the City of Dallas, the North Texas Host Committee, and other regional transportation and tourism agencies to ensure a seamless experience for both residents and international visitors.

“We want to make sure that every fan’s journey through North Texas is as memorable and smooth as the games themselves,” said Nadine Lee, DART President & CEO. “This is an opportunity to show off not just our world-class stadium, but the infrastructure and hospitality that make Dallas a great city.”

As the tournament draws closer, DART will continue to release updates and detailed service plans through its website and social media channels.
