Falcons Break Out of Offensive Slump With 35-14 Rout of Packers at Lambeau Field

Michael Penix Jr. Sparks Atlanta’s Offense

The Atlanta Falcons put together a much-needed offensive breakthrough Thursday night, rolling past the Green Bay Packers 35-14 at Lambeau Field after one of the most futile offensive stretches in NFL history over the first two weeks of the season.

Michael Penix Jr. returned from a torn ACL and immediately provided a spark for an Atlanta offense that had struggled badly to begin the season. Penix completed 18 of 25 passes for 256 yards, one touchdown and one interception, settling down after throwing an interception on his third pass.

His return also helped open up Atlanta’s running game, which dominated the Packers throughout the night. The Falcons finished with 244 rushing yards, led by Bijan Robinson’s 194 yards and a touchdown. Brian Robinson Jr. also found the end zone as Atlanta consistently moved the ball on the ground. Drake London was another major factor in the offensive turnaround. The Falcons wide receiver caught nine passes for 194 yards as Atlanta repeatedly attacked the Green Bay defense through the air.

Falcons Defense Dominates Depleted Packers

While the offense produced its biggest performance of the young season, Atlanta’s defense played an equally important role in the victory. The Falcons consistently pressured Jordan Love and took advantage of a Packers offense missing several key pieces. Green Bay was without star edge rusher Micah Parsons, who is sidelined with a torn ACL, while running back Josh Jacobs was unavailable after being placed on the commissioner’s exempt list.

Love completed 28 of 52 passes for 312 yards, two touchdowns and an interception, but Green Bay struggled to establish anything on the ground. The Packers finished with just 17 rushing yards, allowing Atlanta’s defense to keep the pressure on Love throughout the game. Green Bay’s offensive line was also missing two starters, and the Falcons capitalized on the depleted unit to disrupt the Packers’ offensive rhythm.

Atlanta Ends Historic Offensive Drought

The victory represented a dramatic turnaround for a Falcons team that entered Thursday night desperately searching for answers on offense. Atlanta had scored just 16 combined points during the first two weeks of the season while playing much of that stretch with third-string quarterback Cooper Rush. The 16 points were the fewest in the NFL over the opening two games.

That changed quickly at Lambeau Field. The Falcons scored 17 points before halftime Thursday night and continued to build their lead after the break. More importantly, Atlanta finally began consistently threatening the red zone.

The Falcons entered the game having gone 27 consecutive drives without taking a snap in the red zone, a streak tied for the second-longest to begin a season over the past 45 years. Penix and the Atlanta offense ended that drought as the Falcons repeatedly moved inside the Packers’ 20-yard line.

Falcons Make Statement on the Road

Atlanta’s 35-14 victory provided a much-needed response after its disastrous offensive start to the season. Penix’s return gave the offense stability at quarterback, while Robinson’s explosive rushing performance and London’s dominant night receiving allowed the Falcons to control the game on both sides of the ball.

For the Packers, the loss exposed the impact of their missing players as Green Bay struggled to protect Love, establish the run and slow down Atlanta’s resurgent offense. For the Falcons, however, Thursday night offered a glimpse of what the team can look like with Penix back under center. After scoring only 16 points through their first two games, Atlanta erupted for 35 at one of the NFL’s most difficult road venues and left Lambeau Field with a statement victory.
