Florida Gas Prices Drop
Gas prices in Florida have dropped just in time for the busy Labor Day holiday weekend, giving drivers a slight break at the pump. According to AAA – The Auto Club Group, the statewide average price for regular unleaded gasoline is now $2.93 per gallon, a decline of about 20 cents over the past 10 days. That’s well below last year’s Labor Day average of $3.30 per gallon, though analysts warn the relief may be short-lived.
“Gas prices are moving lower as the unofficial end of the summer travel season approaches,” said Mark Jenkins, spokesman for AAA. He noted, however, that Florida typically sees a pattern where prices dip for about 10 days before climbing again by 10 to 20 cents. This means drivers may want to fuel up early in the week to lock in lower costs before any rebound occurs.
Regional prices vary across the state. The most expensive area remains the West Palm Beach–Boca Raton region, where drivers are paying around $3.08 per gallon. In the Treasure Coast, prices are more moderate, with Okeechobee County averaging $3.05, Martin County at $2.97, Indian River County at $2.97, and St. Lucie County at $2.96. South Florida counties are also below the state average, with Miami-Dade at $2.94 and Broward at $2.95.
For travelers hitting the road this Labor Day, the dip in prices offers some welcome relief, especially compared to last year. Still, AAA’s warning is clear: this downward trend may not last long. Holiday demand, global oil prices, and refinery production could all contribute to a bounce back at the pump in the coming weeks.
