U.S. Military Hellfire Missile Appears to Bounce Off UFO in Yemen
“We’ve never seen a Hellfire missile hit a target and bounce off,” said former Pentagon intelligence official Lue Elizondo. “It’s very, very destructive. But in the video… what seems to happen is that the missile is either redirected, or in some case, perhaps glances off the object and continues on its way.”
A Stunning Encounter Off the Coast of Yemen
A newly released video, captured by a U.S. MQ-9 Reaper drone, has reignited questions about the government’s handling of unidentified aerial phenomena (UAP). The footage, recorded on October 30, 2024, shows a glowing orb hovering off the coast of Yemen before being struck by a U.S. Hellfire missile. Shockingly, the missile appears to bounce off the object and continue on its trajectory.
The video was revealed Tuesday during a House Oversight hearing on UAPs, when Rep. Eric Burlison (R-MO) introduced it into the public record. Burlison credited a whistleblower for providing the footage. When slowed down, the video clearly depicts the missile impacting the orb before resuming its flight path—an outcome that defies the normal physics of a Hellfire strike.
Expert Reactions and Pentagon Silence
Lue Elizondo, who previously led the Pentagon’s Advanced Aerospace Threat Identification Program, told CBS News that the incident was unprecedented.
“When a Hellfire makes a hit, a kinetic strike on something solid, there’s usually not much left,” Elizondo explained. “It’s very destructive. But here, the missile seems to have been redirected, or perhaps deflected, by the object itself.”
The Pentagon has declined to comment on the incident, citing operational security. Officials did confirm, however, that U.S. drones were carrying out airstrikes against Houthi targets in the region that posed a threat to U.S. Navy vessels and international shipping lanes. What role the glowing orb played in that mission remains unknown.
Growing Pressure on U.S. Officials
The release comes at a time of heightened scrutiny over UAPs. A government report earlier this year revealed more than 750 new UAP sightings between May 2023 and June 2024. Lawmakers on both sides of the aisle have pressed for greater transparency, citing both national security and aviation safety concerns.
In 2023, the Defense Department launched a public website to host declassified UAP information. The move followed a high-profile House Oversight Committee hearing where a former intelligence officer and two Navy fighter pilots testified about direct encounters with mysterious objects that outmaneuvered U.S. aircraft.
The Questions That Remain
Details surrounding the Yemen incident are still murky. The military has not disclosed why the missile was launched at the orb, nor whether any follow-up investigation is underway. Officials also did not confirm reports that a second Reaper drone was involved in the strike. For now, the video adds to a growing archive of unexplained military encounters. Lawmakers say it underscores why the U.S. must take UAPs more seriously, not only as a matter of curiosity, but as a potential threat.
“Whatever this was, it wasn’t destroyed,” Burlison told reporters after the hearing. “That alone should concern all of us.”
