Orlando City SC suffered a narrow 1–0 defeat to Houston Dynamo FC on Saturday night at Inter&Co Stadium, as a late breakthrough from Héctor Herrera proved the difference in a tightly contested Major League Soccer matchup. The loss marked a historic first for the Lions, who had never previously fallen at home to Houston in club history.
Despite generating several promising attacking moments throughout the evening, Orlando City was unable to find the finishing touch in the final third. The Lions controlled stretches of play and created multiple opportunities, but Houston’s defensive organization and timely interventions kept the hosts off the scoreboard.
The decisive moment arrived in the 75th minute when Herrera struck to give the Dynamo the lead. The veteran midfielder’s finish ultimately stood as the match-winner, allowing Houston to leave Central Florida with all three points after weathering Orlando’s late push for an equalizer.
The night also carried several notable individual milestones and debuts for Orlando City. Midfielder Martín Ojeda made his 100th start across all competitions for the club, becoming just the third active Lion to reach the century mark, joining defenders Robin Jansson and Iván Angulo in that distinction. Ojeda’s milestone highlighted his continued importance in Orlando’s midfield engine and attacking buildup.
In addition, the match featured the Major League Soccer and home debuts of forward Harvey Sarajian and Orlando City B midfielder Ignacio Gomez, both of whom entered as second-half substitutes. Sarajian, a recent MLS SuperDraft selection, earned his first senior appearance in front of the home supporters, while Gomez also took an important step forward in his progression within the club’s system. Their introductions provided a glimpse of the club’s developing young talent and future depth.
While Orlando City showed resilience and attacking intent late in the match, Houston’s disciplined defensive performance ensured the visitors preserved their slim advantage through the final whistle.
The Lions will now look to bounce back quickly as they return to action in a midweek home matchup against Charlotte FC on Wednesday, April 22. Kickoff at Inter&Co Stadium is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. ET on Apple TV, offering Orlando an immediate opportunity to respond and regain momentum in front of their supporters.
