Inter Miami CF battled to a gritty 0-0 draw against Chicago Fire FC this afternoon at Soldier Field, extending the team’s unbeaten start to the 2025 MLS regular season to seven matches. Despite both sides creating chances, stellar goalkeeping and resilient defending ensured a scoreless stalemate.
Head coach Gerardo “Tata” Martino rolled out a strong starting XI, with Óscar Ustari between the posts. The backline featured Gonzalo Luján, Tomás Avilés, Maximiliano Falcón, and Noah Allen. The midfield trio included Benjamin Cremaschi, Sergio Busquets, and Federico Redondo, while the attacking front was led by captain Lionel Messi, Luis Suárez, and Telasco Segovia.
A milestone was reached for Academy product Benjamin Cremaschi, who marked his 60th appearance for Inter Miami’s First Team.
Inter Miami nearly struck early when Messi tested Chicago’s goalkeeper with a left-footed strike from outside the area in the 4th minute, forcing a diving save. The hosts responded in the 26th minute, with Ustari denying Mauricio Pineda’s long-range effort to keep things level.
The second half saw an evenly contested battle, with both teams searching for a breakthrough. Messi came closest for Miami with two expertly taken free kicks, rattling the crossbar in the 64th and again in the 86th minute.
Ustari stood tall throughout the match, especially in the closing stages. The Argentine keeper made crucial back-to-back saves on Jonathan Bamba in the 88th and 90th minutes, preserving the clean sheet. Ustari finished with seven saves, delivering a standout performance that anchored a strong defensive effort.
Despite several close calls from both sides, neither team could find the back of the net. The 0-0 draw earned Inter Miami a valuable point on the road and pushed their unbeaten streak to seven matches to begin the campaign.
Inter Miami will now turn its focus to another road test, traveling to face the Columbus Crew at Huntington Bank Field on Saturday, April 19. Kickoff is set for 4:30 p.m. ET.
