Jacksonville Jaguars Fifth Victory in Last Six Games
The Jacksonville Jaguars continued their impressive season Thursday night, cruising to a 33-10 victory over the Baltimore Ravens in Week 9 of Thursday Night Football. Trevor Lawrence threw for 242 yards and a touchdown, while Jacksonville took advantage of a severely undermanned Baltimore team to secure its fifth victory in its last six games.
The Jaguars (6-2) controlled the game for much of the night, taking command of the AFC South with a 3½ game division lead. Meanwhile, Baltimore (4-5) suffered its fourth consecutive loss and faces mounting questions at quarterback as injuries threaten to derail its season.
Ravens Struggle Without Top Two Quarterbacks
Normally, playing on a short week presents a difficult preparation challenge for the visiting team. However, it was Baltimore that looked like it desperately needed more time to regroup. With Lamar Jackson and Tyler Huntley both on injured reserve, the Ravens were forced to turn to rookie quarterback Joe Fagnano for the second consecutive week.
The 25 year old made his NFL debut against Buffalo last weekend but struggled against Jacksonville, completing 10 of 18 passes for just 60 yards while throwing two second-half interceptions. Fagnano has also been dealing with an ankle issue, adding to Baltimore’s quarterback concerns. With its top two quarterbacks unavailable, the Ravens are now awaiting the arrival of Jacoby Brissett as they attempt to keep their season from slipping away completely.
Baltimore tried to get creative offensively, repeatedly using Wildcat style formations with running back Derrick Henry. The approach helped produce a field goal on the Ravens’ opening possession, but the offense struggled to generate much else until late in the game.
Lawrence Leads Jacksonville’s Offensive Attack
Jacksonville wasted little time establishing control, driving 77 yards on its opening possession and taking a 7-0 lead on Bhayshul Tuten’s 1 yard touchdown run. The Jaguars maintained their advantage by playing efficiently, protecting the football and avoiding unnecessary risks on a rainy night in Baltimore. Lawrence provided the biggest offensive highlight just before halftime, connecting with Parker Washington on a 50 yard touchdown pass with 58 seconds remaining in the second quarter.
The scoring strike extended Jacksonville’s lead to 17-3 at halftime and gave the Jaguars momentum heading into the second half. Jacksonville added another field goal to make it 20-3 in the third quarter. Baltimore briefly had an opportunity to get back into the game after recovering a fumble at midfield, but the Ravens immediately turned the ball over on downs, drawing a chorus of boos from the home crowd.
Ravens Turnovers Put Game Out of Reach
Baltimore’s offensive struggles continued throughout the second half, while Jacksonville capitalized on the Ravens’ mistakes. Fagnano threw two interceptions after halftime, and Baltimore also lost a fumble on a kickoff return. The special teams turnover set up Chris Rodriguez Jr.‘s 2 yard touchdown run with 7:26 remaining, extending Jacksonville’s lead to 33-3 and putting the game out of reach.
The Ravens finally produced a second-half touchdown just 11 seconds later when Justice Hill broke free for a 65 yard scoring run. Hill finished with 85 yards on nine carries, snapping Jacksonville’s impressive streak of 24 consecutive games without allowing a 75 yard rusher. It was Baltimore’s first second half touchdown since Week 5, highlighting just how much the offense has struggled during its four game losing streak.
Jaguars Take Control of the AFC South
The victory moves Jacksonville to 6-2 and further strengthens its position atop the AFC South. The Jaguars have now won five of their last six games and continue to build momentum as the season approaches its midway point.
For Baltimore, the situation is becoming increasingly concerning. At 4-5, the Ravens have lost four straight games and must find answers at quarterback while hoping Jackson and Huntley can eventually return. Jacksonville took care of business against a depleted opponent, while Baltimore left Thursday night with more questions than answers as its season hangs in the balance.
