Jaxon Smith-Njigba Signs Record $168.6M Extension With Seattle Seahawks, Becomes NFL’s Highest-Paid Wide Receiver

The Seattle Seahawks have made a massive statement about their future — and the evolving wide receiver market — by locking up superstar wideout Jaxon Smith-Njigba to a historic long-term contract extension that resets the financial ceiling at his position across the NFL.

According to league sources, Smith-Njigba — the reigning NFL Offensive Player of the Year — has agreed to a four-year, $168.6 million extension that averages $42.15 million annually and includes more than $120 million guaranteed. Both figures set new league records for wide receivers. With the agreement now in place, the two-time Pro Bowler is under contract in Seattle through the 2031 season.

The deal comes just days after the Seahawks exercised Smith-Njigba’s fifth-year option for the 2027 season, valued at approximately $23.9 million. That procedural move ensured continuity while negotiations finalized what ultimately became a landmark extension — one that cements Smith-Njigba as the centerpiece of Seattle’s championship-era offense for years to come.

Smith-Njigba’s extension surpasses the previous benchmark set by Ja’Marr Chase of the Cincinnati Bengals, whose deal averaged $40.25 million annually. The new contract also leaps ahead of other elite receivers across the league, including Justin Jefferson ($35 million), CeeDee Lamb ($34 million), DK Metcalf ($33 million), and Garrett Wilson ($32.5 million).

Beyond rewarding one of the NFL’s most dynamic offensive weapons, the agreement is expected to ripple across the receiver market — particularly within the NFC West. Division rival Los Angeles Rams could soon face pressure to negotiate an extension with standout receiver Puka Nacua, who is entering the final year of his current contract in 2026.

Smith-Njigba’s extension is the latest move by the defending Super Bowl champion Seahawks to retain their young foundational talent. Seattle previously secured star left tackle Charles Cross, their 2022 first-round pick, with a long-term extension earlier this offseason. Meanwhile, another key piece of the franchise’s future — elite cornerback Devon Witherspoon — is also eligible for a new deal as the organization continues shaping its next championship window.

Together, those moves signal Seattle’s commitment to sustaining success rather than rebuilding after its title run.

Still just 24 years old, Smith-Njigba is coming off the most dominant season of his career — and one of the best campaigns by any receiver in recent league history.

In 2025, he posted career highs with: 119 receptions, 1,793 receiving yards, and 10 touchdown catches. Those numbers helped earn him First-Team All-Pro honors and the NFL Offensive Player of the Year award, firmly establishing him among the league’s elite playmakers.

He continued producing in the postseason as well, hauling in 17 receptions for 199 yards and two touchdowns across three playoff games during Seattle’s Super Bowl-winning run — repeatedly delivering in high-leverage moments on the sport’s biggest stage.

By finalizing the richest wide receiver contract in NFL history, the Seahawks didn’t just secure their top offensive weapon — they reshaped the financial landscape of the position.

For Seattle, the message is clear: the Super Bowl champions are built to contend now — and with Smith-Njigba locked in through 2031, they intend to stay that way.
