Sports is a rip-off. The tickets, the parking, the food, the beer, the souvenirs…EVERYTHING! To me, there is nothing about the experience of a professional sports outing that is worth the money. And trust me when I tell you. The players on these teams hate the fans as well. They look at the men as”Fan Boys” and the women as potential “groupies” (at least the hot ones). It’s that simple. But let’s get back to the rip-offs.

The new MLB baseball season has just started, and every team has played a game. This includes the LA Dodgers, who started their opening day with a home game. And at that home game had a promotion. They were offering the coolest souvenir, a Shohei Ohtani collectible cup. It does look cool. It is designed like his jersey. You can see it in the photos and video attached. By the way, they only want $75 for the souvenir cup. Make that $82 with tax. Wait, I didn’t tell you, it comes with soda in it. Any soda you want. Coke, Sprite, Dr. Pepper, whatever soda they offer. Now that’s a fair deal! Yeah, right…BEND OVER (because that’s what they are making you do). A normal soda at the stadium (not in a collectible cup) goes for about $10-12.
After the news hit social media that the Dodgers were charging this much, people went nuts, and the Dodgers walked it all back. You see, not only was the price a rip-off, but it was good only for refills on the day of purchase! Imagine that?
The deal now comes with endless free refills all season, and a reduced price of $68.99. How nice of them. Now you will only make $5 billion this season instead of $5.3 billion. This is very fitting for the Dodgers, as their average home game ticket price sits at $76.57, nearly double the MLB average of $34.82.
There were many fans who were totally cool with paying this much. We had a term where I come from that describes those people. That term was “sucker”. PT Barnum told you that a sucker was born every minute. Little did we know that he was talking about LA Dodger baseball fans.
