Luxury “Lamborghini Yacht” Sinks Off Miami Beach, 32 Rescued Without Injury
MIAMI BEACH — A dramatic marine rescue unfolded off the shores of Miami Beach Saturday evening after a 63-foot luxury vessel, reportedly a “Lamborghini yacht,” began taking on water near the exclusive Star Island area. All 32 passengers aboard were safely rescued, authorities confirmed.
The incident occurred around 5:05 p.m. near 22 Star Island Drive and Monument Island, triggering a rapid multi-agency emergency response. According to dispatch audio, authorities received a call reporting a “passenger vessel between Monument and Star Island with 32 souls on board.”
Miami Beach Police Marine Patrol units arrived quickly on the scene and initiated rescue operations, requesting additional support due to the number of passengers aboard. Fire Boat 21 was deployed, and both the U.S. Coast Guard and Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission assisted in the coordinated effort.
No Injuries, Vessel Nearly Vertical in Water
Miraculously, all 32 individuals were evacuated safely from the vessel without injury. Miami Beach Fire Department evaluated passengers on shore, and the U.S. Coast Guard later confirmed in a social media post that none required medical attention.
Witness accounts and video footage from nearby boaters described a surreal scene: the yacht appeared to be sticking “straight up” in the water.
“It was vertical,” said witness Rachael Miller in an interview with CBS News Miami. “It definitely didn’t look ordinary, and it’s just very concerning.”
Another witness, Bruce Marsh, said he saw the large vessel from a distance, “clearly angled in the water,” before first responders converged on the scene.
Photos shared by the Coast Guard show some rescued passengers filming the ordeal with their phones as they were removed from the boat.
What We Know About the Vessel
While initial reports described the sinking vessel as a “Lamborghini yacht,” officials have yet to confirm the exact make or model. Lamborghini-branded yachts are often custom-built, ultra-luxury vessels designed in partnership with Italian yacht builder Tecnomar. These watercrafts are known for their sleek supercar-inspired design and can cost upwards of $3 million.
Authorities confirmed that a commercial salvage crew has been dispatched to recover the vessel, which is not currently considered a hazard to navigation.
Cause of Sinking Still Unknown
As of Sunday morning, it remains unclear what caused the vessel to take on water. Officials have not disclosed whether mechanical failure, hull damage, or operator error is suspected. The investigation is ongoing.
CBS News Miami reporters observed several of the rescued passengers at Miami Beach Marina following the rescue. Two individuals were seen leaving the area but declined to comment on the incident.
A Reminder on Boating Safety
While no injuries were reported, officials emphasized the importance of onboard safety procedures, life vests, and regular vessel maintenance — particularly for large recreational boats carrying significant numbers of passengers.
