Louisville Stuns No. 2 Miami as Carson Beck Throws Four Interceptions in 24-21 Upset

Louisville delivered one of the biggest shocks of the 2025 college football season on Friday night, stunning No. 2 Miami 24-21 at Hard Rock Stadium. Quarterback Miller Moss accounted for three touchdowns, and the Cardinals’ defense intercepted Carson Beck four times to hand the Hurricanes their first loss of the year — and snap Miami’s 10-game home winning streak.

It marked a historic night for the Cardinals (5-1, 2-1 ACC). Coming into the matchup, Louisville was 0-18 all-time in true road games against Top 10 opponents. They changed that narrative in emphatic fashion, knocking off a Miami team that had looked like a national title contender through the season’s first six weeks.

The last visiting team to win at Miami? Louisville — in 2023. Louisville couldn’t have scripted a better start. Moss guided the Cardinals to touchdowns on their first two possessions, finding Chris Bell for scoring strikes of 35 and 36 yards to open up a 14-0 lead before the first quarter was halfway over.

Miami (5-1, 1-1 ACC) clawed back behind Beck’s arm, cutting the deficit to 14-10 by halftime and 17-13 entering the fourth quarter. But every time the Hurricanes seemed poised to seize momentum, Louisville’s defense made a play.

Moss was efficient and poised throughout, completing 23 of 37 passes for 248 yards and two touchdowns, while also adding a rushing score. Bell was his go-to target, finishing with nine receptions for 136 yards and the two long touchdowns that set the tone early.

Running back Isaac Brown provided balance for the Cardinals’ offense, rushing for 113 yards on just 15 carries, helping Louisville control the tempo and clock.

For Carson Beck, the night was a nightmare. The senior quarterback, who had been brilliant through Miami’s 5-0 start, struggled from the outset against Louisville’s top-ranked ACC defense. Beck completed 25 of 35 passes for 271 yards, but his four interceptions proved costly — none more than the final one.

With 32 seconds remaining and Miami in field-goal range, Beck tried to force a throw over the middle. Louisville linebacker T.J. Capers read it perfectly, intercepting the pass at the 30-yard line to seal the upset and send the Cardinals sideline into chaos.

Miami’s rushing attack was bottled up all night, managing only 63 yards on 24 carries. The lack of balance put the burden entirely on Beck’s shoulders — a formula that played right into Louisville’s defensive strength.

The Hurricanes had a late spark when Malachi Toney scored on a 12-yard run following a fumble recovery, then threw a two-point conversion pass to pull Miami within 24-21 with 5:43 left. But that would be as close as they’d get.

The victory was just Louisville’s second-ever win over a team ranked No. 1 or No. 2 in the AP Poll, the first being a 63-20 blowout over then-No. 2 Florida State in 2016. But this one, on the road and against one of college football’s most talented teams, may go down as the more impressive feat.

For head coach Jeff Brohm’s Cardinals, it was a statement performance — and proof that Louisville is once again a major player in the ACC race.

Louisville returns home next week to face Virginia Tech, riding the momentum of their biggest road win in school history. Miami will look to regroup as they travel to face North Carolina in a crucial ACC Coastal matchup — their College Football Playoff hopes now hanging in the balance.
