Agustín Ramírez delivered a clutch run-scoring single in the 10th inning and Heriberto Hernández tied it with a sacrifice fly in the ninth as the surging Miami Marlins stormed back to defeat the Arizona Diamondbacks 8-7 on Saturday night, extending their season-best winning streak to six games.
Arizona appeared in control, leading 7-3 entering the eighth inning behind a strong offensive night from Ketel Marte, who homered and drove in four runs. But Miami chipped away late and then surged ahead in extras to snatch the victory.
The comeback began in the eighth when Otto Lopez blasted a two-run homer off Jalen Beeks, cutting the deficit to 7-5. Liam Hicks followed with a run-scoring single to make it 7-6 and shift momentum sharply in Miami’s favor.
In the ninth, Dane Myers sparked another rally with a single, then stole second and third base. He was initially ruled out on his steal of third, but a video review overturned the call. That proved pivotal, as Hernández lofted a sacrifice fly to right field off Shelby Miller, allowing Myers to score the tying run with ease.
In the 10th, Ramírez came through with a line-drive single off Juan Morillo (0-2), plating automatic runner Jesus Sánchez to give the Marlins their first lead of the night.
Anthony Bender (2-5) was brilliant in relief, retiring all six batters he faced over the final two innings to seal the dramatic comeback win.
Ketel Marte continued his torrid pace for Arizona, hitting a three-run homer in the fourth and becoming just the third player in franchise history to reach 500 career RBI, joining Luis Gonzalez (774) and Paul Goldschmidt (710). Marte also added a sacrifice fly in the first inning and an RBI single in the sixth.
Diamondbacks starter Brandon Pfaadt battled through early trouble, giving up two runs in the first, one of which came on a fielding error by shortstop Geraldo Perdomo. Pfaadt settled in to strike out seven over five innings, allowing three runs (two earned) on five hits.
Opposing starter Sandy Alcantara wasn’t as fortunate. The former Cy Young winner struggled, surrendering a sacrifice fly to Pavin Smith in the first and five more runs in a rough fourth inning, capped by Marte’s towering three-run blast. Alcantara allowed seven runs on 10 hits over six innings.
The win gives Miami an opportunity to sweep the series on Sunday. Right-hander Cal Quantrill (3-7, 5.56 ERA) will take the mound for the Marlins against Arizona’s Eduardo Rodriguez (3-4, 5.40 ERA).
The overturned call on Myers’ steal of third in the ninth set up the game-tying sacrifice fly by Hernández.
Ketel Marte’s 500th career RBI places him alongside franchise legends Luis Gonzalez and Paul Goldschmidt in Arizona’s record books.
