Kyle Stowers and Agustín Ramírez each launched home runs, and the Miami Marlins used a relentless offensive outburst to beat the San Francisco Giants 12-5 on Thursday afternoon, completing a three-game sweep at Oracle Park.
Xavier Edwards added a key two-run double as Miami won its fourth straight overall and fifth in six games. The Marlins have now won six straight on the road — their longest away winning streak of the season.
Stowers crushed a three-run homer in the first inning and Ramírez followed with a two-run shot in the third, both off Giants starter Hayden Birdsong, helping Miami build an early 5-0 lead.
The Giants clawed back into the game, however, behind the bat of Rafael Devers, who doubled and later smashed a two-run homer — his 17th of the season and second in nine games since joining the club via trade last week. Devers’ homer also marked his 700th career RBI. A leadoff triple by Jung Hoo Lee keyed a three-run fourth inning that tied the game 5-5.
But the Marlins responded immediately in the fifth. Eric Wagaman delivered a two-run double to break the tie, part of a three-run inning that chased Birdsong from the game. The rookie right-hander (3-2) struggled, allowing seven runs on four hits and four walks over four-plus innings.
Miami continued to pile on late, capitalizing on Giants bullpen mistakes to pull away. Edwards finished with three RBIs, and Ramírez added a double to his early homer.
Marlins manager Clayton McCullough was ejected in the top of the first inning after shortstop Otto Lopez was hit by a pitch. Umpires issued warnings to both dugouts following Wednesday’s contentious matchup, which included three Giants players getting plunked in a 10-inning, 8-5 Miami win.
Janson Junk started for Miami but lasted only 3 2/3 innings, giving up five runs on eight hits. Josh Simpson (1-0) earned the win in relief, recording the final out of the fourth before Miami retook the lead for good.
The loss adds to a troubling stretch for the Giants, who have now dropped eight of their last 11 games and continue to struggle for consistency despite Devers’ hot start in San Francisco.
The Marlins will head to Arizona to open a weekend series against the Diamondbacks. Miami will send right-hander Eury Pérez (0-2, 6.17 ERA) to the mound Friday night to face Arizona’s Merrill Kelly (7-3, 3.39 ERA).
The Giants travel to Chicago to take on the White Sox, with Landen Roupp (5-5, 3.67 ERA) set to oppose righty Aaron Civale (1-4, 5.03 ERA) in the series opener.
