No. 13 Ole Miss Stuns No. 4 LSU Behind Chambliss Rise, 24-19

Three weeks ago, few outside of Mississippi or Ferris State knew the name Trinidad Chambliss. Now, the Division II transfer is the face of Ole Miss’ undefeated start.

Chambliss threw for 314 yards and a touchdown — his third straight 300-yard game since replacing injured starter Austin Simmons — as No. 13 Mississippi outlasted No. 4 LSU 24-19 on Saturday night at Vaught-Hemingway Stadium.

The win marked another signature moment for the Rebels (5-0, 3-0 SEC), who outgained LSU 480–254 in total yards and leaned on Chambliss’ poise down the stretch.

“More notoriety and a lot more people following me,” Chambliss said with a grin afterward, acknowledging how quickly his football life has changed. Rebel fans have even begun waving Trinidad and Tobago flags in his honor.

Ole Miss balanced its offensive attack with 166 rushing yards, including touchdowns from Kewan Lacy (15 yards) and former LSU running back Logan Diggs (6 yards). Chambliss’ late fourth-down strike to tight end Dae’Quan Wright iced the victory after a tense finish.

LSU (4-1, 1-1) once again struggled to run the football, finishing with just 57 yards on the ground while missing top back Caden Durham and starting right tackle Weston Davis. The lack of balance left quarterback Garrett Nussmeier carrying the load. He completed 21 of 34 passes for 197 yards with one touchdown and one interception but continued to look less dynamic than last season’s 4,000-yard campaign. Nussmeier declined to discuss the offense’s issues, but LSU’s inability to finish drives was evident.

First Quarter: LSU opened scoring when Nussmeier’s end-zone throw, tipped by Sage Ryan, landed in the arms of diving receiver Nick Anderson for a 7-0 lead.

Second Quarter: Ole Miss stormed back, outgaining the Tigers 197–40 in the period. After Lacy’s touchdown run and a 2-yard score by Cayden Lee, the Rebels led 17-7 at the half despite a costly fumble by Lee at the LSU 3 that prevented another touchdown.

Third Quarter: Damian Ramos hit field goals of 40 and 48 yards, cutting the Ole Miss lead to 17-13.

Fourth Quarter: Diggs scored against his former team to extend the Rebels’ advantage to 24-13. LSU answered with Harlem Berry’s 6-yard run with just over five minutes left, but Suntarine Perkins stopped Ju’Juan Johnson on the 2-point try. From there, Chambliss and Lacy kept the clock moving before Wright’s clutch catch sealed it.

Ole Miss heads into a bye week unbeaten before hosting Washington State on Oct. 11 in another ranked showdown. LSU, meanwhile, will try to regroup during its open week before welcoming South Carolina on the same date.

For now, the Rebels ride the wave of an unexpected star at quarterback and a defense that stiffened when it mattered. And in Oxford, Trinidad Chambliss’ story is quickly becoming legend.
