Matt Brown, ‘Alaskan Bush People’ Star, Found Dead After Days-Long Search

Matt Brown Found Dead

Matt Brown, one of the original stars of the Discovery Channel reality series Alaskan Bush People, has died after authorities recovered his body from a river in Washington state following a days long search. He was 42. The news was confirmed over the weekend by Brown’s younger brothers, Noah Brown and Bear Brown, who shared emotional messages on social media as fans and former viewers reacted to the tragedy.

According to statements from family members, Brown’s body was recovered from the Okanogan River in Washington after concerns grew over his whereabouts. Bear Brown said in a video posted online that authorities located a body that was later positively identified as Matt Brown. Noah Brown was reportedly involved in the search effort and helped authorities recover the body.

A Troubled Journey Away From Reality TV

Matt Brown was one of the most recognizable members of the Brown family during the early years of Alaskan Bush People, a reality television show that followed the family’s unconventional off grid lifestyle. The series premiered in 2014 and became one of Discovery’s most successful reality franchises, running for 14 seasons before its final episodes aired in 2022.

Brown stepped away from the show in 2019 as he battled addiction and personal struggles. Over the years, he spoke publicly about entering treatment and working toward sobriety. His absence from later seasons became a recurring topic among fans, many of whom followed his personal updates through social media.

Family members said Brown had experienced a difficult relationship with both fame and addiction, though relatives pushed back against claims that he had been abandoned by the family. Bear Brown stated publicly that Matt had distanced himself from relatives by choice while continuing to face personal challenges.

Family Speaks Out

In statements released after the discovery of his body, members of the Brown family described Matt as intelligent, creative, and deeply loved despite years of struggles with addiction and mental health issues. The family said Brown often used his own experiences to encourage others dealing with similar challenges and emphasized that his life should not be defined solely by his lowest moments. The loss comes five years after the death of Brown family patriarch Billy Brown, who died in 2021 after suffering a seizure.

Investigation Continues

Authorities have not yet released a final cause of death, and an official investigation remains ongoing. Reports from multiple outlets indicated that a firearm was recovered near the area where Brown was last seen, though investigators have not publicly announced final findings.

Brown’s death has prompted an outpouring of condolences from longtime viewers who followed the Brown family’s journey for more than a decade on television.
