Miami Heat Begin Post-Butler Era with 108-101 Victory Over 76ers

On the night a franchise-altering trade sent Jimmy Butler to the Golden State Warriors, the Miami Heat proved they could move forward without their former star, defeating the Philadelphia 76ers 108-101 on Wednesday.

Tyler Herro led the way for Miami with 30 points, while Bam Adebayo contributed a double-double with 18 points and 13 rebounds. The Heat overcame a sloppy night handling the ball committing 22 turnovers but made up for it with strong bench production and clutch shot-making.

News of Butler’s trade to the Warriors surfaced during the first half, adding another layer of drama to an already intriguing matchup. The Heat had suspended Butler for the game, and Josh Richardson another key name in the reported trade was unavailable due to a foot injury. Despite the off-court distractions, Miami remained focused, securing a much-needed win.

Tyrese Maxey continued his scoring tear for Philadelphia, pouring in 31 points his seventh consecutive 30-point performance. Kelly Oubre Jr. added 15 points and 11 rebounds, but the Sixers struggled to convert Miami’s turnovers into points. Playing without reigning MVP Joel Embiid, who sat out for load management on his left knee, the 76ers lacked offensive firepower. Paul George, returning from a five-game absence due to a left pinkie injury, shot just 3-for-11 from the field for nine points.

The turning point came late in the second quarter when the 76ers held a slim 55-52 lead. Miami responded with a 10-0 run, fueled by Nikola Jovic’s six points. The Heat took a five-point lead into halftime and never trailed in the second half.

Jovic played a crucial role in Miami’s victory, coming off the bench to score 23 points. Terry Rozier also stepped up with 20 points, helping Miami dominate in bench scoring, 57-29.

The 76ers entered the game as the NBA’s best three-point shooting team over their last nine contests, hitting 40.3% from beyond the arc. However, they started cold against Miami, missing their first six attempts and finishing just 12-for-40 (30%) from deep. That shooting drop-off proved costly in a tightly contested game.

The Heat will look to close out their four-game road trip with another win when they visit the Brooklyn Nets on Friday. Meanwhile, the 76ers will try to bounce back against the Detroit Pistons in a road matchup the same night.

As Miami begins a new chapter without Butler, Wednesday’s win was a statement: the Heat still have the talent and depth to compete in the Eastern Conference.
