Miami Beach Man Arrested After Burglary at Jewish Deli; Prior Bomb Threat Case and Separate Temple Incident Surface
A 45-year-old man is facing multiple criminal charges after authorities say he broke into a Jewish deli in Miami Beach, an incident captured on surveillance video that also shows police arresting him at gunpoint. Court records and law enforcement statements indicate the suspect has a recent criminal history, including a prior bomb threat case and a separate incident involving a local synagogue.
Police identified the suspect as Christopher Kory Pike, who was arrested Wednesday at the deli near West 41 Street and Pine Tree Drive in Miami Beach.
Burglary Caught on Camera
Surveillance video from inside the business shows Pike smashing the deli’s front window to gain entry. According to witnesses and investigators, Pike used a Ring doorbell camera to break the glass before entering the establishment. Ronald Varga, who works next door, said he initially mistook the noise for a fallen tree.
“I heard a loud bang,” Varga said. “At first I thought a tree had fallen.”
Once inside, surveillance footage shows Pike pouring himself a drink, tampering with a meat-aging unit, rummaging through a drawer, and moving toward the cash register before police arrived. Officers are seen in the video arresting Pike with their weapons drawn inside the deli.
Charges and Bond Hearing
Pike later appeared before a Miami-Dade County bond court judge, where prosecutors filed multiple charges, including burglary, criminal mischief, resisting arrest, and providing a false name to law enforcement. The judge set his bond at $6,000. As part of the court proceedings, Pike was also ordered to stay away from Temple Beth Shalom. Court records show Pike faces a separate criminal mischief charge connected to that location, though authorities have not publicly released detailed facts about that incident.
Prior Bomb Threat Arrest
The deli burglary is not Pike’s first encounter with law enforcement. In February, he was arrested in connection with an alleged bomb threat at a Publix supermarket. That case remains part of his criminal record and has drawn additional scrutiny to the latest arrest, particularly given the sensitive nature of the locations involved.
Ongoing Investigation
Miami Beach police have not indicated whether the deli burglary and the Temple Beth Shalom incident are related, and investigators have not announced any hate-crime enhancements at this stage. Authorities say the case remains under investigation, and additional charges are possible depending on further findings. The incident comes amid heightened security concerns at Jewish institutions across South Florida, where law enforcement agencies have increased patrols and urged the public to report suspicious activity.
