Naked Passenger Forces Southwest Flight Back to Gate After Stripping, Screaming and Banging on Cockpit Door
A Southwest Airlines flight from Houston to Phoenix was forced to return to the gate after a passenger stripped naked, screamed inside the cabin and reportedly pounded on the cockpit door as the aircraft was taxiing for departure, turning what should have been a routine trip into a bizarre and unsettling ordeal for passengers and crew.
The March 3, 2025, incident occurred aboard Southwest Flight 733 from William P. Hobby Airport in Houston to Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport. Video recorded by passengers showed the woman moving through the cabin without clothing while shouting as stunned travelers watched. Multiple reports based on witness accounts said the disruption lasted roughly 25 minutes before the situation was resolved.
Passenger Demands to Get Off Before Situation Escalates
According to passenger accounts, the disturbance began while Flight 733 was taxiing for takeoff. The woman reportedly moved toward the front of the aircraft and demanded to be let off, with witnesses describing her jumping, screaming and striking parts of the cabin before she began removing her clothing. One passenger later told reporters that the woman said she was bipolar during the incident, although neither that statement nor passenger speculation about what may have caused her behavior establishes a medical diagnosis or whether drugs were involved.
The confrontation escalated further when witnesses said the woman began banging on the cockpit door and continued moving through the cabin while completely naked. Some passengers recorded what was happening, and video of the disruption subsequently spread online. Despite speculation heard in passenger footage that the woman might have taken hallucinogenic drugs, authorities publicly confirmed only that she was eventually transported for medical evaluation. There is no verified evidence in the available reporting establishing that mushrooms, LSD or another drug caused the episode.
Pilots Abort Departure and Return to the Gate
The pilots ultimately abandoned the departure and taxied the aircraft back to the terminal rather than continuing toward takeoff. Houston police responded to Hobby Airport, and the passenger was removed from the aircraft. Reports said an airline employee covered her with a blanket after the door opened, and police subsequently transported her to Harris Health Ben Taub Hospital for a medical evaluation. Police said at the time that charges had not been filed.
The decision to return to the gate prevented the situation from becoming an in flight emergency thousands of feet above the ground. Although the disruption was extraordinary, the aircraft was still on the ground when it occurred, allowing the flight crew to return directly to the terminal, where police and additional airline personnel could intervene.

Passengers Watch the Chaos Unfold
Cellphone footage captured the surreal atmosphere inside the cabin as passengers attempted to understand what was happening. Some could be heard speculating about the woman’s condition while others questioned whether the plane would return to the terminal. Passenger accounts described the episode as uncomfortable and frightening, with witnesses suggesting that the woman appeared to be experiencing some form of crisis.
That distinction is important because some viral versions of the story have treated the incident primarily as bizarre airplane entertainment. The publicly verified facts show something more serious: an apparently distressed passenger behaving erratically enough to force pilots to terminate the departure, return an occupied commercial aircraft to its gate and summon law enforcement and medical assistance.
Flight Eventually Leaves Houston for Phoenix
After the woman was removed and the situation was brought under control, Flight 733 eventually resumed its trip to Arizona. Flight tracking information cited by USA Today showed the aircraft departing Houston at approximately 4:32 p.m. Central Time and reaching the gate in Phoenix at approximately 6:20 p.m. Mountain Time. Contemporary reports placed the overall delay at more than an hour, with some describing it as roughly 90 minutes.
Southwest confirmed that law enforcement met Flight 733 after it returned to the gate because of what the airline described as a “Customer situation onboard.” The company said it contacted affected passengers to apologize for the disruption and thanked them for their patience while employees worked to get them to Phoenix. Reports also indicated that Southwest provided passengers with $50 future-travel vouchers following the incident.
No Charges Filed Following Medical Evaluation
Houston police said the woman was transported for medical evaluation rather than immediately booked into jail, and reports published in the days following the incident said she was not facing criminal charges at that time. Her identity was not publicly released in the mainstream reporting reviewed for this story.
The incident nevertheless highlights the difficult decisions airline crews face when a passenger becomes severely disruptive. What passengers initially witnessed as a strange outburst quickly escalated into a safety problem involving an individual reportedly striking parts of the aircraft and banging on the cockpit door. Because the aircraft was still taxiing, the pilots had an option unavailable during an airborne emergency: turn around, return to the gate and hand the situation over to authorities.
For everyone else aboard Flight 733, the result was an approximately hour-and-a-half interruption to their trip, an extraordinarily unusual story to tell when they finally reached Phoenix and, reportedly, a $50 Southwest voucher for their trouble.
