Bodycam Footage NFL Arrest
Newly released body camera footage is shedding new light on the February arrest of Atlanta Falcons rookie linebacker James Pearce Jr., showing the NFL player driving away from officers after they attempted to detain him during an investigation involving his former girlfriend, Rickea Jackson.
The video, released by the Doral Police Department, captures a tense interaction between Pearce and responding officers outside a residential complex in South Florida. Officers repeatedly instruct Pearce to stop and comply with their commands, but the footage shows him returning to his vehicle and driving away, prompting police to pursue him before taking him into custody.
Investigation Began After Domestic Dispute
The incident began after police responded to a reported domestic dispute involving Pearce and Jackson. According to investigators, Jackson told officers that Pearce had followed her in his vehicle after an argument and intentionally rammed her SUV during the encounter.
Police said the collision caused damage to Jackson’s vehicle but did not result in serious injuries. Officers later located Pearce nearby and attempted to detain him while investigating the allegations. Instead of remaining at the scene, the newly released footage shows Pearce getting into his vehicle and leaving despite officers’ commands. Police later caught up with him and arrested him following a brief pursuit.
Multiple Felony Charges Filed
Following his arrest, prosecutors charged Pearce with several felony offenses, including aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, fleeing and eluding law enforcement, and resisting an officer without violence. Authorities alleged that Pearce used his vehicle as a weapon during the incident involving Jackson, leading to the aggravated battery charge.
Pearce has not publicly commented in detail on the allegations, and his legal team has maintained that he intends to resolve the case through the legal process.
Diversion Agreement Could Lead to Charges Being Dropped
Although the charges remain serious, the case is expected to be resolved through a pretrial diversion agreement rather than a criminal trial.
Under the agreement, Pearce must successfully complete a one year diversion program that includes meeting court-ordered conditions. If he fulfills those requirements, prosecutors are expected to dismiss the charges at the conclusion of the program.
Diversion programs are commonly used for certain first-time offenders and allow defendants to avoid a criminal conviction if they comply with all court requirements.
Falcons Continue Monitoring Situation
The arrest came just months after the Falcons selected Pearce in the first round of the 2026 NFL Draft following a standout collegiate career. At the time of his arrest, the organization acknowledged the incident and said it was gathering information while allowing the legal process to play out.
The release of the body camera footage has renewed public attention on the case by providing the first detailed view of the confrontation between Pearce and responding officers. While the criminal case appears headed toward diversion, the video offers new insight into the events that unfolded during one of the most closely watched legal cases involving an NFL rookie this year.
