Dallas High School Shooting
A student has been shot at Wilmer-Hutchins High School in Dallas in what authorities are describing as an incident of student-on-student violence, according to the Dallas Independent School District (DISD).
Police responded to the school shortly after reports of gunfire on campus surfaced late Tuesday morning. Upon arrival, officers discovered one student with a gunshot wound. Emergency medical services were called to the scene, and the injured student was transported to a nearby hospital. The condition of the victim has not yet been publicly released.
DISD officials confirmed that the incident occurred on school grounds and involved two students. The district stated that the school was immediately placed on lockdown as a precaution while officers secured the scene.
In a brief statement, Dallas ISD said, “We are aware of a shooting that occurred at Wilmer-Hutchins High School involving students. Law enforcement is actively investigating. The safety of our students and staff remains our top priority.”
Dallas Police Department officers are working closely with school officials to investigate the circumstances surrounding the shooting. No further details have been released about the suspect, but officials have indicated that the individual believed to be responsible has been detained.
Parents were notified via the school district’s emergency communication system. Many gathered outside the school anxiously awaiting information about their children.
“We’re shaken and heartbroken,” said one parent at the scene. “You send your kids to school expecting them to be safe. This is every parent’s nightmare.”
The district has stated that counselors and crisis teams will be made available to students and staff in the coming days.
This incident marks another troubling example of gun violence in schools, renewing calls from parents, educators, and officials for stronger safety measures and intervention programs to address conflicts before they escalate.
As of now, classes have been suspended for the remainder of the day at Wilmer-Hutchins High School, and the investigation remains ongoing.
