Ramírez Homers, Meyer Shines as Marlins Snap Cardinals Five-Game Win Streak with 5–3 Victory

The Miami Marlins used timely hitting and a strong outing from Max Meyer to defeat the St. Louis Cardinals 5–3 on Monday night, ending St. Louis five-game winning streak at loanDepot park.

Catcher Agustín Ramírez provided a key spark for Miami, launching a leadoff home run in the fifth inning his second of the season to give the Marlins a lead they would not surrender.

Meyer, the third overall pick in the 2020 amateur draft, continued his encouraging return from injury setbacks with one of his most effective outings of the year. The right-hander worked 5 1/3 innings, allowing two runs on three hits and two walks while striking out eight on 91 pitches.

Despite a rocky opening that included hitting JJ Wetherholt and Iván Herrera with pitches to begin the game, Meyer quickly found his rhythm and retired 10 consecutive Cardinals hitters.

St. Louis took a 1–0 lead in the fourth inning when Jordan Walker singled to extend his hitting streak to 15 games and later scored on a sacrifice fly by Masyn Winn.

Miami responded in the bottom half. After Kyle Stowers drew the Marlins’ first baserunner with a walk, Xavier Edwards delivered a ground-rule double to tie the game at 1–1.

Ramírez’s fifth inning blast then pushed Miami ahead 2–1. The Cardinals briefly evened the score in the sixth when Walker moved into scoring position and eventually crossed the plate on a wild pitch. Miami answered immediately.

Stowers singled and raced home from first on a double by Otto Lopez, putting the Marlins back on top. Edwards later walked, and though he was thrown out at the plate on Liam Hicks’ single, Lopez scored on the same play to make it 4–2.

Reliever Calvin Faucher (2–2) recorded the final two outs of the sixth inning and was credited with the victory after Miami reclaimed the lead in the bottom half.

Lopez extended his hitting streak to nine games and later added an insurance run in the eighth. After drawing a walk against Ryan Fernandez, he scored again on another RBI single from Hicks to stretch the advantage to 5–2.

St. Louis threatened in the ninth against Pete Fairbanks, who allowed a leadoff triple to Winn and a sacrifice fly by Ramón Urías. But Fairbanks regrouped to close the door and secure his fourth save in five opportunities.

Cardinals starter Michael McGreevy (1–2) was solid early, retiring the first 10 batters he faced before Stowers’ fourth inning walk. He finished with four runs allowed on five hits and two walks across 5 2/3 innings.

Meanwhile, Wetherholt continued an unusual streak of his own he has now been hit by a pitch in a Cardinals-record five consecutive games.

The series continues Tuesday night with St. Louis sending right-hander Dustin May (2–2, 6.98 ERA) to the mound against Miami right-hander Chris Paddack (0–3, 5.59 ERA) as the Marlins look to build momentum after snapping the Cardinals’ surge.
