Rams Cruise Past Giants 28-6 as Jaxson Dart Suffers Knee Injury

Los Angeles Finds Its Offense as New York Loses Its Quarterback

The Los Angeles Rams bounced back from a disappointing Week 1 loss in emphatic fashion Monday night, dominating the New York Giants 28-6 behind a vintage performance from quarterback Matthew Stafford and wide receiver Davante Adams. The Rams improved to 1-1 with the convincing victory, while the Giants also moved to 1-1 after losing quarterback Jaxson Dart to a left knee injury on New York’s seventh offensive snap.

Dart, who impressed in the Giants’ season opening victory over Dallas, left the field shakily following a big hit from Byron Young and Josaiah Stewart and spent the second half watching from the sideline in a track suit. With Dart out, New York’s offense struggled to keep pace.

Davante Adams Has a Career Night in a Rams Uniform

Adams was the centerpiece of Los Angeles’ offensive explosion, finishing with eight catches for a career best 195 yards in a Rams uniform and two touchdown receptions. He immediately made his presence felt on the Rams’ second possession, making a spectacular two-handed grab high above his head before racing away for a 31 yard touchdown.

Adams then hauled in a 64 yard reception on Los Angeles’ third drive, setting up a 10 yard touchdown catch by Kyren Williams. He later added another touchdown on an 11 yard fade from Stafford in the third quarter. The performance marked Adams’ best game since joining the Rams and provided Stafford with a dynamic weapon as Los Angeles played without injured All-Pros Puka Nacua and Myles Garrett.

Matthew Stafford Turns Back the Clock

Stafford was equally impressive, completing a dominant night with 327 passing yards and four touchdown passes as Los Angeles piled up 481 total yards compared with just 182 for New York. The Rams veteran quarterback also moved into sixth place on the NFL’s all-time touchdown passing list. His 426th career touchdown pass came on the 11-yard scoring connection with Adams, moving him past Philip Rivers.

After last week’s 27-7 loss to the San Francisco 49ers in Australia, Stafford and the Rams offense looked much more like the unit expected to contend for a Super Bowl. Los Angeles even overcame two turnovers while maintaining control throughout the game.

Giants Offense Stalls After Dart Injury

Jameis Winston replaced Dart and completed 11 of 27 passes for 111 yards with an interception, but New York could not generate enough offense to challenge the Rams. Winston’s biggest mistake came in the second quarter when he threw an interception in the end zone to Trent McDuffie.

The Giants’ best opportunity came just before halftime when Jevon Holland forced and recovered a fumble at the Los Angeles 11 yard line. New York settled for only a field goal from the opportunity. The Giants were held to 182 total yards and struggled to sustain drives for much of the night after Dart’s departure.

Aaron Donald Makes His Return

One of the night’s biggest storylines was the return of Aaron Donald to the NFL. The longtime Rams defensive star made his presence felt with a number of familiar plays, including a key third-down stop in which he stuffed Najee Harris.

Los Angeles’ defense consistently made life difficult for the Giants, helping the Rams turn the game into a runaway victory despite the team’s early turnovers. Stafford put the game out of reach with 8:57 remaining when he connected with Terrance Ferguson for another touchdown.

The Rams’ performance provided a strong response to their disappointing Week 1 showing and restored some of the momentum surrounding a team that entered the season with high expectations.

Week Three Matchups

The Giants return home Sunday to host the Tennessee Titans, with Dart’s status now the primary concern following Monday night’s injury. The Rams will travel to Denver for a Sunday night matchup with the Broncos as they look to build on their impressive Week 2 rebound.
