Scottie Scheffler’s Epic Comeback in Final Round to Win Gold at the 2024 Paris Olympics

In a display of golfing brilliance, Scottie Scheffler proved why he is the world’s No. 1 golfer by capturing the gold medal at the 2024 Olympic men’s golf competition at Le Golf National in Paris. Scheffler delivered a masterclass performance, closing with a sensational 9-under 62 on Sunday, which included a remarkable back-nine 29, to finish at 19-under for the tournament.

Scheffler started the final round four shots behind the overnight leaders, Jon Rahm and Xander Schauffele. However, as the day unfolded, both Rahm and Schauffele experienced uncharacteristic struggles. Schauffele’s game fell apart early, and he ultimately finished tied for ninth. Rahm, who appeared poised to secure the gold after a birdie on the 10th hole extended his lead to 20 under, faltered dramatically. Bogeys on the 11th and 12th holes were followed by a devastating double bogey on the par-5 14th. Rahm’s woes continued with a bogey-bogey finish, dropping him to a tie for fifth.

Amidst the drama, Scheffler remained composed and relentless. His back-nine performance was nothing short of spectacular, featuring a series of birdies and precise play that captivated the spectators. With birdies on holes 12, 13, 15, 16, and 18, Scheffler cemented his position at the top of the leaderboard. His final-round 62 was a testament to his skill and determination, earning him the coveted gold medal and adding to his impressive collection, which includes two Masters titles.

Great Britain’s Tommy Fleetwood showed remarkable resilience, sinking a crucial 6-foot par putt on the final hole to secure the silver medal. Fleetwood’s steady play throughout the tournament was rewarded with a podium finish.

Japan’s Hideki Matsuyama, a crowd favorite, also delivered a strong performance. Despite the pressure, Matsuyama managed to clinch the bronze medal. His consistent play over the four days of competition was highlighted by crucial birdies that kept him in contention.

French golfer Victor Perez provided one of the most memorable moments of the day for the home crowd. With chants of “Alliez! Alliez!” echoing through the course, Perez played an electrifying back nine, carding a 29 to finish with a closing 63. His run included birdies on the 12th, 13th, 15th, and 16th holes, and an eagle on the 14th. Perez’s final surge brought him to 16 under for the tournament, just one stroke shy of the bronze medal position.
