Leagues Cup Phase One – Inter Miami CF vs. Club León @ Nu Stadium in Miami, FL
Inter Miami CF will close out its Leagues Cup 2026 Phase One schedule when Lionel Messi and Miami take on Liga MX side Club León at Nu Stadium.
This year’s Leagues Cup features 36 clubs, with all 18 Liga MX teams and 18 MLS clubs competing in a cross-border showdown between the two leagues. During Phase One, every matchup pits an MLS club against a Liga MX opponent. Inter Miami was drawn against Atlético de San Luis, CF Monterrey and Club León, giving South Florida soccer fans three straight opportunities to watch some of Mexico’s best clubs come into Miami.
Inter Miami opened the tournament with an impressive 4-2 victory over Atlético de San Luis on August 5, with Messi scoring twice. But the momentum took a hit in Miami’s second match, when CF Monterrey came from behind to defeat Inter Miami 2-1 on August 8. Rodrigo De Paul scored Miami’s lone goal, while Monterrey answered with goals from Hugo Cuypers and Diego Rossi, including a late winner that made the situation considerably more interesting.
That makes the Club León match particularly important. León enters the matchup as another Liga MX opponent capable of making life difficult for Miami, and Inter will need a strong performance to improve its chances of advancing. León has already shown it can compete with MLS opposition during this tournament, adding another layer of pressure to what was supposed to be three Phase One games and has instead become the sort of soccer math exercise that makes everyone suddenly pretend they understand tournament tiebreakers.
For Inter Miami, the match also represents another chance to see Messi on the international club stage. Miami won the inaugural Leagues Cup in 2023, its first major trophy, and the club is making its fourth appearance in the competition in 2026. The tournament runs through September 6, with three spots in the 2027 Concacaf Champions Cup also on the line.
With Messi, Inter Miami’s growing collection of international stars and a dangerous Club León squad on the other side, Wednesday night’s matchup should provide plenty of action at Nu Stadium. For Miami, however, this isn’t simply another game on the schedule. It is a chance to finish Phase One strong and keep the club’s quest for another Leagues Cup trophy alive.

USA Rugby vs. Argentina XV @ Inter Miami CF Stadium in Fort Lauderdale
Rugby fans in South Florida are getting a rare chance to see high-level international rugby up close when the USA Men’s Eagles take on Argentina XV this weekend. The match kicks off at 7:30 p.m. at Inter Miami CF Stadium, bringing an international rugby showdown to the former home of Inter Miami and one of South Florida’s best-known soccer venues.
The matchup is particularly interesting because Argentina XV is not simply Argentina’s full national team, the Los Pumas. Argentina XV serves as the country’s next-level senior representative side, giving developing players and experienced professionals an opportunity to compete at a high level while potentially positioning themselves for future selection with the national team. The roster can include players with international experience, making this far more than a typical developmental exhibition.
For the United States, the match comes at an important time as the Eagles continue building toward the 2027 Rugby World Cup in Australia. USA Rugby has been putting together a strong summer run, with Major League Rugby players playing an important role in the team’s recent success. The Argentina XV match gives American players another opportunity to test themselves against one of the world’s strongest rugby nations and potentially make their case for future national-team selection.
