And yes, you may have to battle the traffic, the heat and a thunderstorm that appears out of nowhere, but that’s part of the experience.

Miami Hurricanes vs. Florida A&M Rattlers @ Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens
The No. 7 Miami Hurricanes return home Thursday night looking to keep the momentum rolling when they host the Florida A&M Rattlers at Hard Rock Stadium. Miami enters the matchup 1-0 after absolutely dismantling Stanford 45-6 on the road, while FAMU comes in at 1-1 following a 31-13 loss to South Carolina State.
The Hurricanes couldn’t have asked for a better opening performance from quarterback Darian Mensah. The Duke transfer threw for 401 yards and five touchdowns against Stanford, immediately pushing himself into the Heisman Trophy conversation. Wide receiver Malachi Toney was equally ridiculous, exploding for 234 receiving yards and three touchdowns. In other words, Miami’s offense appears to have arrived with absolutely no interest in easing into the season.
For Florida A&M, this is a very different challenge. The Rattlers are an FCS program competing in the SWAC, while Miami is ranked seventh nationally and has legitimate College Football Playoff ambitions. ESPN’s matchup model gives Miami a 99% probability of victory, while betting markets have installed the Hurricanes as enormous favorites.
That doesn’t mean there is nothing to watch. Miami has some defensive injuries that could give younger players an opportunity. Cornerback O.J. Frederique Jr. is expected to miss significant time, while fellow cornerback Ja’boree Antoine is also sidelined. Miami is deep at the position, but Thursday night should provide a useful test of that depth.
For the Hurricanes, this is essentially a game about execution, development and avoiding injuries. Miami should have a substantial advantage in size, speed and overall talent, making this an opportunity for head coach Mario Cristobal to get younger players meaningful snaps while continuing to sharpen an offense that looked frighteningly efficient in Week 1. FAMU, meanwhile, gets a chance to play on one of college football’s biggest stages and potentially make the kind of statement that gets remembered long after the scoreboard has been forgotten.
For Miami, anything short of a comfortable victory would be a major surprise. The real question isn’t whether the Hurricanes should win. It’s how quickly they can take control, how many points they put up, and how much of the second half belongs to the backups. Humanity has once again arranged a football game where one team is vastly more talented than the other, apparently because competitive balance was getting boring.

Inter Miami CF vs. Nashville SC @ Nu Stadium in Miami
Inter Miami CF returns to action this Saturday when Lionel Messi and the Herons host Nashville SC in what could be one of the more important games of the MLS regular season. The match kicks off with Miami looking to turn home-field advantage into three valuable points against a Nashville side that has established itself as one of the league’s tougher opponents.
Miami enters the matchup after a wild 2-2 draw with Atlanta United. Messi assisted Casemiro’s opening goal, while Luis Suárez put Miami back in front before Atlanta equalized on a late penalty. Despite the disappointing result, Messi continues to be one of the most dangerous players in MLS and is currently tied for the league scoring lead with 18 goals.
Nashville presents a particularly interesting challenge. The club has been among the Eastern Conference’s strongest teams and has turned the matchup with Miami into something of an MLS rivalry. Nashville’s ability to defend in numbers while creating chances through its attacking players has made it a difficult opponent for Miami, which means this probably won’t be another leisurely stroll through the park for Messi and company. Humanity continues to insist on making soccer games stressful.
For Inter Miami, the biggest question will be whether the team can rediscover the explosive attacking form it showed in its 7-1 demolition of CF Montréal, when Messi scored four goals. Miami will need that kind of offensive efficiency against Nashville, particularly if the visitors manage to slow the game down and force Miami to manufacture chances rather than simply overwhelm opponents with possession and individual brilliance.
The game also comes at an interesting moment for Messi personally. He recently announced his retirement from international soccer following Argentina’s 2026 World Cup campaign. He has now returned his full attention to Inter Miami, and with his MLS future still attracting plenty of speculation, every appearance carries an additional level of interest.
With both clubs battling near the top of the Eastern Conference, Saturday’s matchup has considerably more at stake than bragging rights. Nashville wants to prove it belongs among MLS’s elite, while Miami is trying to build another championship-caliber run around Messi, Suárez and its veteran core. Expect a physical, competitive match with plenty of attention on No. 10.

Florida Atlantic Owls vs. Navy Midshipmen @ Flagler Credit Union Stadium in Boca Raton
Florida Atlantic gets a quick chance to put last week’s ugly loss behind it when the Owls welcome the Navy Midshipmen to Boca Raton on Saturday.
The Owls enter the matchup at 0-1 after being overwhelmed by Florida, 66-21, in Gainesville. FAU will now return home looking for a dramatically better performance, but Navy brings a very different challenge from the Gators. The Midshipmen opened the season with a convincing 42-15 victory over Towson and enter Boca Raton at 1-0.
Navy is coming off an 11-2 season in 2025 and returns 12 starters and 46 letter winners, giving the Midshipmen plenty of experience as they begin American Athletic Conference play. Navy’s option-oriented attack can be particularly frustrating because it forces defenses to stay disciplined on virtually every snap. One missed assignment can turn into a big gain, which is football’s charming way of punishing people for blinking.
For FAU, the key will be establishing some offensive consistency and keeping Navy from controlling the game on the ground. After surrendering 66 points to Florida, the Owls’ defense will have a much different assignment against a Navy offense that relies heavily on its rushing attack and ball control. FAU also needs to take advantage of playing at home, where the Owls will be looking to turn the page on a rough opening weekend.
The matchup also carries some recent history. Navy is making its first trip to FAU since 2017, and Saturday marks the beginning of a stretch in which the Midshipmen will play three consecutive true road games, with trips to FAU, UAB and Air Force.
For FAU, this is more than just another game on the schedule. It is an early opportunity to show that the Florida loss was a brutal reality check against an SEC opponent rather than an indication of what the Owls will look like against American Conference competition. Navy, meanwhile, arrives with momentum and a proven program looking to start conference play with another win. FAU vs. Navy should provide a physical, contrasting matchup between the Owls’ effort to rebound and Navy’s disciplined rushing attack.
