Suns Devin Booker Thirty Points and Dillon Brooks Twenty Four Points
The Phoenix Suns snapped a four game losing streak Thursday night, cruising to a 117-104 victory over the Orlando Magic behind 30 points from Devin Booker and 24 points from Dillon Brooks. Phoenix bounced back after suffering a home loss to Portland on Wednesday, delivering a strong offensive performance to end its skid.
The Magic, meanwhile, continued to struggle, dropping their third consecutive game while opening a four game road trip with a defeat. Booker and Brooks provided the offensive spark, combining for 54 points as Phoenix controlled much of the contest. The Suns built a comfortable lead in the first half and continued to pull away after halftime, leaving Orlando with little chance of mounting a comeback.
Suns Pull Away Behind Booker and Brooks
Phoenix took control during the third quarter when Booker and Brooks connected on back-to-back three pointers midway through the period, extending the Suns’ advantage to 78-60. The lead continued to grow as Phoenix dominated offensively, pushing its advantage to 96-73 entering the fourth quarter. Collin Gillespie’s three pointer with 9:20 remaining gave the Suns a 30 point lead, their largest of the night.
Booker finished with 30 points, while Brooks added 24. Miles Bridges contributed 18 points and a season high 13 rebounds as Phoenix received production from multiple players. The Suns were particularly effective from beyond the arc, connecting on 17 of 34 three point attempts for 50% shooting. Booker and Brooks each knocked down four three pointers.
Wendell Carter Jr. Leads Magic Despite Loss
Orlando struggled to keep pace with Phoenix despite an impressive performance from Wendell Carter Jr., who led the Magic with 27 points on 10-of-12 shooting while adding 13 rebounds. Tristan da Silva provided 18 points off the bench, while Franz Wagner finished with 15 points and 15 assists.
However, turnovers proved costly for Orlando. The Magic committed 25 turnovers, which Phoenix converted into 36 points, making it difficult for the visitors to stay competitive. The Suns controlled most of the opening half and carried a 63-51 advantage into the locker room after Booker knocked down a three-pointer just before the halftime buzzer.
Booker had already scored 23 points by the break, shooting 8 of 13 from the field and 3 of 4 from three-point range. Carter led Orlando at halftime with 13 points and eight rebounds. Phoenix maintained its momentum after the break, using its perimeter shooting and defensive pressure to build an insurmountable advantage.
Up Coming NBA Games for the Suns and Magic
The victory gives Phoenix a 1-1 record during its season long seven game homestand as the Suns look to build momentum following their four game losing streak. Orlando, meanwhile, will try to bounce back after losing the opening game of its four game road trip. The Magic travel to face the Golden State Warriors on Saturday, while the Suns return home to host the Houston Rockets on Saturday.
