Nashville SC continued its blazing start to the 2026 MLS season on Saturday night, delivering a dominant 5–0 shutout victory over Orlando City SC at GEODIS Park behind a hat trick from Sam Surridge and a standout all-around performance from newcomer Cristian Espinoza.
Managed by B.J. Callaghan, the Coyotes overwhelmed Orlando from the opening whistle and never looked back, improving to 4W-0L-1D and moving atop both the Eastern Conference standings and the race for the Supporters’ Shield. Nashville sits ahead of fellow unbeaten side LAFC on goal differential and remains one of just four MLS clubs still alive in Concacaf Champions Cup play.
Nashville wasted little time asserting control. Espinoza struck less than five minutes into the match, slicing through Orlando’s defense to open the scoring and ignite the home crowd.
The pressure continued to mount as Surridge doubled the advantage in the 28th minute from the penalty spot—Nashville’s first converted penalty of the season—after sustained attacking pressure forced Orlando goalkeeper Maxime Crépeau into repeated saves earlier in the half.
Already trailing 2–0 at halftime, Orlando’s struggles deepened in the second half as Nashville shifted into another gear.
Surridge completed his fourth MLS regular-season hat trick with two clinical second-half finishes, continuing what has quickly become a Golden Boot-level campaign. He now leads the league with seven goals and recorded his third multi-goal performance of the 2026 season—an early surge in the race for the MLS Golden Boot.
With the three-goal performance, Surridge matched Hany Mukhtar for the most regular-season hat tricks in Nashville club history and extended his reputation as one of MLS’s most dangerous finishers.
Warren Madrigal added the fifth goal in the 80th minute to cap a commanding performance that could easily have produced an even wider margin.
While Nashville’s attack stole the spotlight, goalkeeper Brian Schwake quietly continued his remarkable run between the posts. He made one save to secure his third MLS shutout in just five starts this season.
Across all competitions in 2026, Schwake has now recorded six clean sheets in nine appearances and improved his career MLS starting record to 11W-0L-3D. Even more impressively, the first-year starter has conceded just nine goals in his first 14 appearances with the club.
For Orlando City, the heavy defeat underscored ongoing issues that extend beyond the departure of former head coach Oscar Pareja. The Lions struggled defensively and failed to generate sustained attacking threats, leaving them searching for answers as the season progresses.
Now unbeaten through five matches and leading multiple league races simultaneously, Nashville SC is quickly emerging as one of MLS’s early title favorites. With Surridge scoring freely, Espinoza adding creativity and energy, and Schwake delivering stability in goal, the Coyotes’ balanced dominance is setting the tone for what could become a landmark season in Music City.
