Thanksgiving Night Showdown: Dolphins Visit Packers in Prime-Time Clash

The Miami Dolphins and Green Bay Packers will add a new chapter to their historic rivalry when they face off at Lambeau Field on Thanksgiving night. The Dolphins lead the all-time series 14-9, but the Packers have won the last three meetings, including a 26-20 victory in Miami on Christmas Day 2022.

Both teams enter the game riding high after dominant Week 12 performances. The Dolphins (5-6) dispatched the New England Patriots 34-15 at home, while the Packers (8-3) cruised to a 38-10 victory over the San Francisco 49ers at Lambeau. With both teams tied for third place in their respective divisions, a win on Thanksgiving could be pivotal as the playoff race intensifies.

Green Bay’s ground game has been a critical factor in their recent success, led by running back Josh Jacobs. Jacobs is in prime form, having rushed for 944 yards this season—third in the NFL. He added three touchdowns last week and has seven in his last five games. Miami’s run defense ranks ninth in the league, allowing 106.9 yards per game, but they’ll face a stiff challenge containing Jacobs, especially with key linebacker injuries.

The Dolphins will be without cornerback Kendall Fuller for the third straight game due to a concussion, while linebackers Tyus Bowser (knee/calf) and Anthony Walker Jr. (hamstring) are also sidelined. Offensive tackle Terron Armstead (knee) is questionable, and Isaiah Wynn could make his season debut after being activated from the PUP list.

Green Bay will miss standout cornerback Jaire Alexander and linebacker Edgerrin Cooper for the second consecutive game. Wide receiver Romeo Doubs (concussion) is also out, while tight end John FitzPatrick, linebacker Isaiah McDuffie, and center Josh Myers are questionable.

Despite trailing in the overall series, the Packers have won six of the last eight meetings and have been dominant at home. The Dolphins haven’t won at Lambeau Field since 2010 and are looking to snap a nine-year losing streak to Green Bay. This will be Miami’s eighth Thanksgiving game and first since 2011, when they narrowly lost to Dallas 20-19.

For the Packers, this marks their second consecutive Thanksgiving appearance, having defeated Detroit 29-22 last year. Historically, Green Bay has rarely hosted Thanksgiving games, with this being only their second home Thanksgiving matchup since 1923.

With both teams vying for playoff positioning, this Thanksgiving clash promises to deliver high-stakes drama. Green Bay’s dominance against AFC teams this season and Miami’s explosive offense set the stage for an intriguing battle under the Lambeau lights. Will Jacobs and the Packers continue their winning streak, or can the Dolphins break their Lambeau drought? All eyes will be on this marquee matchup to close out Thanksgiving Day.

What to Watch

  • Tua Tagovailoa vs. Packers Secondary: Tua has led Miami to a 3-2 record since returning from a concussion, but he’ll need to avoid the turnover woes that plagued their last meeting when the Packers intercepted him three times.
  • Dynamic Duo: Dolphins receivers Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle torched Green Bay’s secondary in 2022. Can they replicate that success without Fuller and against a banged-up Packers defense?
  • Thanksgiving Spotlight: Both coaches, Mike McDaniel and Matt LaFleur, share a coaching history and will relish the chance to outwit one another on a national stage.
