As the saying goes, “The stars at night are big and bright, deep in the heart of Texas.” This year, Globe Life Field in Arlington will play host to baseball’s brightest stars during the 94th All-Star Game, bringing a distinct Texas flair to the event. From player uniforms to the unique concessions, everything will scream Texas pride.
This All-Star Game is historic for several reasons. It’s only the third time a reigning World Series champion has hosted the Midsummer Classic, joining the 1934 Giants and the 1939 Yankees. This gives a special touch to the 2024 event, as the Texas Rangers will welcome fans to their home turf as the reigning champs.
FOX’s coverage of the game will begin at 7 p.m. ET/4 p.m. PT, with the first pitch scheduled for around an hour later. Be sure to tune in early to catch all the pre-game festivities.
National League manager Torey Lovullo made an exciting and rare early announcement: Pirates rookie Paul Skenes will start for the NL. Skenes has made a meteoric rise, needing only 11 starts in the big leagues to earn this honor, the fewest career appearances ever for an All-Star starter. For the American League, manager Bruce Bochy will reveal his starter at Monday’s Media Day.

Since the All-Star Game no longer determines home-field advantage in the World Series (a change made before the 2017 season), it has returned to being a showcase of talent and fun. Home-field advantage in the World Series now goes to the pennant-winner with the better regular-season record.
This is the second time the Rangers have hosted the All-Star Game, with the first being in 1995 at The Ballpark in Arlington. The NL won that game 3-2, with Jeff Conine earning MVP honors. This year marks Globe Life Field’s debut as an All-Star Game venue, having previously hosted two World Series, including the Rangers’ 2023 championship run.
The American League holds a slight edge over the National League with 47 wins to 44 losses, plus two ties. The AL has been dominant in recent years, losing just seven times since 1988 and only four times since 1997.
Fun Facts and Tidbits
- The 1995 Arlington All-Star Game featured 12 future Hall of Famers in the starting lineups and 16 future Hall of Famers overall.
- The last time Arlington hosted, all three of the NL’s runs came from solo homers by Craig Biggio, Mike Piazza, and Jeff Conine, in consecutive innings.
- Globe Life Field hosted the neutral-site 2020 World Series and NLCS due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
- This is the fifth All-Star Game hosted in Texas, with the Astros having hosted three times in Houston (1968, 1986, 2004).
With stars like Salvador Perez, Mookie Betts, and Freddie Freeman gracing the field, along with the excitement of first-time All-Stars like Paul Skenes, the 2024 All-Star Game promises to be an unforgettable night deep in the heart of Texas.
