Trump Says Republicans Will Hold Midterm Convention in Dallas

Trump Midterm Convention Dallas

President Donald Trump announced Tuesday that the Republican Party will hold a national midterm convention in Dallas this September, creating what appears to be the first national Republican convention organized specifically ahead of a midterm election.

The event is scheduled for Sept. 9 and 10 and is intended to energize Republican voters and candidates as the party works to defend its narrow majorities in both chambers of Congress before November’s elections.

Trump Calls Convention a Celebration of America’s “Great American Comeback”

Trump made the announcement on his Truth Social platform, describing the convention as a celebration of what he characterized as the country’s renewed economic and political momentum under his administration.

He said the gathering will feature Americans from a wide range of industries, including business leaders, manufacturers, entrepreneurs, first responders and workers who, according to the president, are helping drive the nation’s growth.

Trump wrote that the event will showcase “hard-working Americans, our great innovators, entrepreneurs, manufacturers, first responders, and job creators” who are powering what he called America’s “Golden Age” and demonstrating that the country’s best days remain ahead.

The convention is expected to focus heavily on Republican policy priorities, economic achievements and campaign messaging as the party prepares for the fall elections.

A New Strategy Before the Midterms

National party conventions are traditionally reserved for presidential election years, when delegates formally nominate candidates for president and vice president and adopt the party platform. Holding a national convention during a midterm cycle represents a significant shift in Republican campaign strategy.

Party officials reportedly began discussing the idea earlier this year as a way to build enthusiasm among supporters and coordinate messaging heading into one of the most closely watched midterm elections in recent history.

Dallas Becomes Political Spotlight

The decision places Dallas at the center of national politics during a critical point in the 2026 election cycle. Thousands of party delegates, elected officials, campaign staff and Republican supporters are expected to attend the two day gathering.

The convention will likely feature speeches from Trump, congressional leaders, governors and Republican candidates from across the country.

Texas Senate Race Draws National Attention

The announcement also comes as Texas prepares for one of the nation’s most competitive Senate races.

Republican nominee Ken Paxton is set to face Democratic state Rep. James Talarico in November for the Senate seat currently held by Sen. John Cornyn. Paxton secured the Republican nomination after winning a runoff election in May, and early polling has indicated a competitive race with the candidates separated by only a few percentage points.

Because Republicans hold only slim majorities in Congress, the Texas Senate contest is expected to play a major role in determining which party controls the Senate after the midterm elections.

The Dallas convention is expected to serve as a high profile platform for Republican candidates while allowing the party to promote its legislative agenda and rally supporters during the final months of the campaign season.
