U.S. Women Cruise Past Italy to Reach Olympic Semifinals

The United States women’s hockey team delivered a dominant performance in the quarterfinal round of the Milano Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics, defeating host nation Italy 6–0 to secure a place in the semifinals.

The Americans set the tone early, controlling possession and pace throughout the opening period. Defenseman Megan Keller broke through just over 13 minutes into the first frame, giving the United States a 1–0 lead heading into the first intermission.

The game shifted decisively in the second period when the U.S. offense erupted for five goals in a relentless scoring surge. Four-time Olympian Kendall Coyne Schofield sparked the outburst with back-to-back goals just over three minutes apart, putting the hosts on their heels and effectively sealing the outcome.

Blue-line standout Caroline Harvey continued her historic tournament performance, recording her ninth point of the Games. With the milestone, Harvey set a new record for the most points by an American defenseman in a single Olympic tournament, highlighting the United States’ depth and offensive production from the back end.

The scoring effort reflected a complete team performance. Five different U.S. players found the net, while 13 Americans registered at least one point in the fast-paced victory. Defenseman Laila Edwards contributed a goal and an assist, bringing her tournament total to six points. Through the quarterfinal round, the United States has outscored opponents 26–1, underscoring its dominance on both ends of the ice.

Despite the loss, the tournament marked a historic moment for Italy’s program. The host nation reached the Olympic knockout stage for the first time after previously appearing only at the 2006 Turin Games, where it did not advance beyond group play. Italy’s progress in Milano Cortina represented a significant step forward for women’s hockey in the country.

With momentum firmly on its side, Team USA now turns its focus to the semifinals scheduled for February 16, moving one step closer to another Olympic gold-medal opportunity.
