Vaughn Powers White Sox Past Marlins, 6-2, to Halt Four-Game Skid

Andrew Vaughn homered and the Chicago White Sox used a three-run seventh inning to surge past the Miami Marlins 6-2 on Friday night, snapping a four-game losing streak in the opener of their weekend series at Guaranteed Rate Field.

The White Sox, who had been outscored 21-4 during a dismal sweep at the hands of the Kansas City Royals, showed renewed energy and timely hitting. Vaughn’s solo blast in the fourth gave Chicago its first lead, and after Miami briefly tied the game, the Sox broke through in the seventh.

Brooks Baldwin delivered the go-ahead sacrifice fly off Marlins starter Max Meyer (2-4), who was charged with five runs on five hits over 6 1/3 innings. Jacob Amaya followed with an RBI single before Matt Thaiss drew a bases-loaded walk from reliever Ronny Henriquez to cap the rally.

Cam Booser (1-3) earned his first win in a White Sox uniform, pitching a clean seventh as the third of five Chicago relievers. Starter Bryse Wilson turned in a solid outing, allowing just one run over five innings.

Key to Chicago’s turnaround was plate discipline. The White Sox managed just one walk over the first six innings but worked three crucial free passes in the decisive seventh.

Miami’s lone highlights came from Liam Hicks, who hit a solo home run, and Josh Rojas, who scored on a wild pitch by Cade Gibson in the eighth. Still, the loss marked the Marlins’ 10th defeat in their last 12 games, continuing a troubling stretch.

Baldwin’s sacrifice fly in the seventh shifted momentum permanently in Chicago’s favor. Three walks in the seventh helped fuel the White Sox’s three-run rally. Miami’s Edward Cabrera (0-1, 6.29 ERA) takes the mound Saturday against Chicago’s Shane Smith (1-2, 2.41 ERA) as the series continues.
